About inQ
inQ is a growing technology and engineering company supporting mission-critical programs across the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community. Our teams bring expertise in systems engineering, software development, cybersecurity, cloud, data, AI/ML, and advanced engineering solutions to some of the nation's most challenging missions.
We are seeking talented early-career professionals who enjoy solving complex problems, working alongside highly technical teams, and making an immediate contribution to national security missions.
Position Summary
inQ is seeking a Systems Engineer II specializing in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to support advanced system and scenario modeling activities in the Dayton, Ohio / Wright-Patterson AFB area.
The engineer will provide engineering model support for scenario-based campaign planning, using SysML 2.0, Cameo/MagicDraw, or similar compatible modeling environments to develop models representing regional scenarios and mission requirements across various timeframes.
The ideal candidate combines a strong systems engineering foundation with practical MBSE experience and the ability to independently develop, analyze, document, and validate complex engineering models while collaborating with government customers, intelligence analysts, scientists, and modeling and simulation professionals.
What You'll Do
• Develop and enhance baseline threat and system reference models.
• Develop SysML models representing complex systems, behaviors, interfaces, requirements, and relationships.
• Translate operational and real-world scenarios into functional engineering models.
• Add behavioral models to physics-based models.
• Support MBSE production for baseline scenario analysis and tailored mission needs supporting wargaming.
• Perform engineering and scenario-based system analysis.
• Verify and validate model functionality and performance.
• Document model development processes, assumptions, configuration, and technical decisions.
• Apply scripting or automation, where appropriate, to reduce manual model development and data-handling effort.
• Collaborate with government customers, intelligence analysts, engineers, scientists, and cross-functional technical teams.
• Participate in technical reviews and present modeling approaches and results to stakeholders.
• Prepare engineering documentation, analysis products, and technical briefings, and manage assigned activities against established delivery schedules.
• Provide technical assistance and informal guidance to junior engineers.
What You'll Bring
• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, or another closely related technical discipline.
• 5 to 9 years of relevant professional experience in engineering, science, mathematics, systems engineering, modeling and simulation, or MBSE.
• Strong foundation in systems engineering principles and methodologies.
• Practical knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering.
• Experience developing or analyzing engineering or system models.
• Familiarity with Cameo/MagicDraw or comparable MBSE tools.
• Familiarity with SysML, preferably SysML 2.0.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary technical team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage priorities against technical delivery schedules.
• Ability and willingness to work onsite in the Dayton / Wright-Patterson AFB area.
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Active DoD Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated scenario-based modeling experience.
• Practical experience with SysML 2.0 and Cameo/MagicDraw.
• Working proficiency with Python or comparable scripting for model automation, data extraction, or engineering analysis.
• Familiarity with AFSIM, NGTS, and/or ArcGIS.
• Previous DoD or Intelligence Community program experience, including Scientific and Technical Intelligence missions such as NASIC/NSIC.
• Background knowledge or experience supporting INDOPACOM, EUCOM, and/or CENTCOM areas of responsibility.
• Familiarity with AI/ML models used to process and analyze large datasets.
• Experience communicating technical solutions and model results to customers and stakeholders.
