Job Description
Required Skills & Experience
• BS in Laser Engineering, Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (MS or PhD preferred)
• 8+ years of program management experience delivering complex HEL or other laser-based systems through the development lifecycle, with demonstrated experience advancing systems from moderate TRL (lab/breadboard) to high TRL (integrated prototype, field demonstration).
• Experience managing programs with DoD/DoW and/or DOE customers (Services, DARPA, FFRDCs, etc.) including contract execution, program reviews, and deliverable management.
• Strong background in laser systems with working knowledge of semiconductor laser sources, beam combining techniques (CBC, SBS, polarization, etc.) optical coating technologies, driver electronics, and other technologies required for HEL systems.
• Proficiency with program management tools and frameworks: integrated master schedules, earned value management, risk registers, and work breakdown structures.
• Active or ability to obtain a Top-Secret security clearance.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Experience with surface-emitting semiconductor laser technologies or fiber laser systems at the component or (preferably) system level.
• Prior hands-on engineering or science role before transitioning into program management, providing firsthand understanding of hardware development challenges.
• Experience managing programs that span multiple technology areas (semiconductors, lasers, optics, with complex subsystem interdependencies.
• Background in defense technology startups or rapid prototyping environments where speed and technical rigor must coexist.
• Familiarity with OTA, SBIR/STTR, and other non-traditional acquisition vehicles common in the world of defense tech startups.
• PMP certification or equivalent formal program management training.
• Familiarity with ITAR/export control compliance and classified program management.

This Program Manager will lead the end-to-end execution of High Energy Laser (HEL) programs, translating breakthrough semiconductor-based HEL effector technology from laboratory demonstrations into fieldable, mission-ready systems. This program manager owns cost, schedule, and communication/reporting across multiple HEL development efforts, working shoulder-to-shoulder with senior scientists and engineers to navigate complex system-level trades while keeping programs on track. The role demands someone who can speak the language of high energy semiconductor lasers, beam combining methods, optics, and associated technologies while running a disciplined program management cadence that earns the confidence of customers, leadership, and the technical team alike.
Compensation:
$200,000 to $250,000 per year annual salary.
