Job Description

We are seeking a Plumber to support a facility in Alice Springs, Australia.

The Plumber is a key member of a multi-skilled team responsible for safely and effectively maintaining the facility infrastructure and critical systems at the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap (JDFPG). Working both independently and as part of a skilled maintenance team, the Plumber delivers professional technical repair and maintenance across all assigned facility infrastructure, including the planning, organization, and coordination associated with day-to-day facility maintenance.

The Plumber installs, repairs, and maintains the pipe systems, fixtures, and appurtenances associated with water, natural gas, air, sewage, and industrial waste systems, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently in line with relevant codes and standards. The role works closely with the Facilities Operations Team, other Facilities Maintainers, and supporting departments to promote best-practice standards and enable the reliable, consistent, and effective operation of facility systems in support of the JDFPG mission, while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently perform the construction and maintenance of plumbing systems in conformance with applicable codes, ordinances, sketches, specifications, blueprints, and written or verbal instructions.
• Lay out, construct, install, rebuild, maintain, repair, adjust, modify, and test plumbing systems such as water and drain lines, lawn irrigation, and fire sprinkler systems.
• Assist with the maintenance and repair of underground sewer and water systems.
• Determine the location, type, size, and quantity of materials required, accounting for factors such as volume, pressure, temperature, and the type of substance being piped.
• Perform minor insulation work using prefabricated mineral insulating material, binding, plastic, cement, and similar materials.
• Diagnose, test, and repair all types of plumbing lines and fixtures, from routine maintenance through to major breakdowns that do not respond to routine repair.
• Operate gas welding equipment to cut, burn, and solder as necessary to complete work assignments; may be required to work with hazardous waste.
• Maintain logs, records, and charts as required, and keep current all certifications and licenses required by state or local authorities.
• Accurately and promptly complete job-related documentation, including work orders, timesheets, and safety reports, and input information from paper work orders into digital systems.
• Ensure, promote, and maintain health and safety practices and compliance across the site and workplace.
• Perform other reasonable duties as requested.

Required Qualifications

• Journeyman license (candidates from Arizona must hold and maintain a “Contractor” license.)
• Hold a White Card (Construction Induction) certification.
• Minimum of four years of post-trade experience.
• Strong understanding of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act and applicable EHS policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated understanding of, and experience working within, facility maintenance or a similar technical environment.
• Strong understanding of equipment maintenance requirements (preventive, predictive, and corrective).
• Demonstrated high level of problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
• Be medically fit to safely complete all physical tasks of the role, including carrying and controlling moderate to heavy loads and safely traversing and accessing maintenance environments that may be uneven or cramped.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working at Heights, First Aid/CPR, Gas Fitters License, Confined Spaces, Forklift License, and Elevated Work Platform License.
• Enterprise Resource Planning experience (e.g., SAP, Archibus).
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and strong general computer skills.

Security Clearance Requirement

Obtaining and retaining the security and medical clearances applicable to the role is a condition of employment. This role requires a TS/SCI with CI polygraph.
