Description

ASRC Federal System Solutions, LLC (AFSS), a subsidiary of ASRC Federal, is a premier provider of systems engineering, software engineering, systems integration, engineering, and program management services supporting mission-critical national security and defense programs.

AFSS is seeking a CAD/CAM Engineer II to support the Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC2) Program in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This position will support the engineering drawing and drafting team responsible for developing, maintaining, and controlling the technical configuration baseline for one of the Department of Defense's most advanced radar systems.

The selected candidate will develop and maintain engineering drawings, technical documentation, and product configuration data supporting the complete system lifecycle. This role works closely with mechanical, electrical, systems, manufacturing, integration, logistics, and configuration management teams to ensure engineering products accurately reflect the evolving radar system design.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and experienced in maintaining complex engineering documentation while supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams in a fast-paced development environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, revise, and maintain engineering drawings, models, specifications, and as-built documentation supporting the DARC2 radar system.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using industry-standard CAD software.
  • Verify completed drawings for accuracy, completeness, dimensional integrity, engineering standards, and ASME compliance.
  • Review engineering documentation to identify design discrepancies, omissions, or conflicts and coordinate corrective actions with engineering teams.
  • Support the establishment and maintenance of the program's engineering configuration baseline throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Generate and maintain engineering Bills of Material (BOMs), indentured part lists, drawing trees, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Support Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) activities, including document control, engineering releases, change management, and configuration audits.
  • Coordinate with systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing, integration, and logistics personnel to ensure engineering documentation remains current and accurately reflects system configuration.
  • Assist with engineering change requests, technical data package development, and design release activities.
  • Support design verification efforts, engineering reviews, manufacturing readiness activities, and integration testing.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives that improve engineering documentation quality and configuration management practices.
  • Perform other engineering documentation and CAD support activities as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Design, Drafting Technology, or another STEM discipline with a minimum of two (2) years of related experience, or a Master's degree.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance with the ability to maintain the required clearance.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling software such as Siemens NX, PTC Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent.
  • Experience creating engineering drawings compliant with applicable ASME drafting and dimensioning standards.
  • Experience using illustration software such as Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Adobe Fresco, or equivalent.
  • Experience creating and maintaining engineering Bills of Material (BOMs), indentured parts lists, and drawing hierarchies.
  • Experience supporting engineering configuration management and maintaining technical baselines.
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and engineering documentation practices.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems such as Siemens Teamcenter, Windchill, Enovia, ARAS, or similar tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Ability to support multiple engineering priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% as required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Active U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance.
  • Experience using Siemens Teamcenter in support of engineering configuration management.
  • Experience supporting engineering documentation throughout the complete product development lifecycle.
  • Experience performing design verification activities and supporting engineering verification reporting.
  • Experience designing or modeling mechanical interfaces, support structures, equipment racks, mounting hardware, or enclosure assemblies.
  • Experience supporting cable routing, cable assemblies, fiber optic systems, or RF hardware installations.
  • Experience supporting integrated electrical or electronic system development and integration.
  • Knowledge of engineering test planning, integration, and verification processes.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or U.S. Space Force engineering programs.
  • Experience supporting radar systems, sensor systems, or large-scale defense system integration programs.
  • Familiarity with USAF Technical Orders and military engineering documentation requirements.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies, Scrum, or DevSecOps environments.
  • Experience utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted CAD or drafting tools to improve engineering productivity.

Desired Characteristics
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and engineering excellence.

Clearance
  • Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any additional program-specific accesses required to support the DARC2 Program.

Travel
  • Up to 25% travel may be required to support customer meetings, integration activities, supplier coordination, system installation, and field support.
