This postion is located on site in Annapolis Junction, MD.

Job Overview

Under direction of the Facility Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Welder) will be responsible for all types of welding projects to make repairs to vehicle barriers, steel piping, heavy equipment and mechanical repairs. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will work with various tradesmen to make field repairs that required a certified welder. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will ensure all welds are performed per the industry standards. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic shall fabricate all types of metal using specialized machinery. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will use different types of welders to include, but not limited to mig welders.

Pay Rate: $42.65/Hour

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

Capable of making certified welds on various equipment and machinery. Welds will be made on all types of metal.
  • Capable of fabricating all types of metal to make in field repairs.
  • Inspect and verify existing welds meet or exceed industry standard.
  • Certified to operate various types of welders to include mig and spot welders.
  • Make structural repairs to vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Make structural repairs to vehicle barriers.
  • Discusses with technical support problems related to maintenance or operation of equipment.
  • Capable of designing, fabricating and install steel and black piping.
  • Plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, models and verbal and written instructions.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments.
  • Plans, organizes work and meets all deadlines. Able to do a variety of tasks in any single day.
  • Coordinates with other trade and warehouse personnel the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.
  • Helps perform periodic stock inventories and prepare material requisitions for replacement items as required.
  • Operates Government or Chugach owned motor vehicles and/or other equipment.
  • Performs various lower classified duties such as (but not limited to) file maintenance, workspace cleanup, maintain warehouse space and telephone answering as required.
  • Adheres to the established safety and personnel policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:
  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the maintenance field
  • Three (3) years of experience in welding related work
  • Certified Welder
  • Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with basic mathematical functions is required.
  • Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screen.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) level clearance.
  • Valid state driver's license with suitable driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and team lift 75 pounds.
