Job Description

Join NS2 Mission and help build the data solutions that power mission-critical operations. Our team is seeking a Data Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Chantilly, VA, where you'll develop and maintain scalable data pipelines, support cloud-based data platforms, and help transform complex data into actionable insights.

Working within an Agile environment, you'll collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, and mission stakeholders to design, develop, and optimize data solutions that support evolving mission needs. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer looking to expand their expertise in modern data engineering technologies while contributing to impactful national security programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines and enterprise data workflows.
  • Build and enhance Python-based data processing solutions supporting production environments.
  • Support the ingestion, transformation, and movement of structured and unstructured data across multiple platforms.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve data quality, pipeline reliability, scalability, and overall system performance.
  • Develop and maintain cloud-based data solutions within AWS environments.
  • Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, technical discussions, and solution implementation.
  • Troubleshoot data pipeline issues and support the resolution of operational challenges.
  • Contribute to the modernization and automation of data engineering processes and workflows.
  • Assist with testing, deployment, and sustainment activities across the data platform.
  • Document technical solutions, processes, and data workflows to support maintainability and knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Approximately 4-8 years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience working across the ETL lifecycle, including pipeline development, optimization, and maintenance.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for data processing and application development.
  • Hands-on experience working within AWS cloud environments, including services such as EC2, Lambda, EKS, and S3.
  • Experience developing and supporting scalable data solutions in production environments.
  • Understanding of data engineering best practices, data modeling concepts, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Experience working within Agile development teams.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow.
  • Experience with containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience working with large datasets and distributed data processing frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to solve complex technical challenges.
