What You Will Do
  • Guide complex tactical systems through the rigorous development and qualification lifecycle with a commitment to continuous improvement through innovation.
  • Conduct pivotal cryocooler trade studies and market down-selections for flagship programs. Construct an objective decision matrix to evaluate SWaP-C (Size, Weight, Power, and Cost) characteristics, thermal capacity curves, and reliability predictions to guide the selection process and secure stakeholder buy-in.
  • Partner to Chief Technologists and Engineering Leadership for strategic road mapping exercises and new business capture.
  • Develop concepts of Opto-Mechanical Assemblies through final part design using 3D Solid Modeling.
  • Perform Design for Manufacturability Trade Studies to optimize fabrication / integration cost reductions.
  • Iterate designs with Structural / Thermal Analysts to optimize survival / reliability requirements.
  • Complete Technical Data Package (TDP) 2D documentation of Solid Model designs and create Initial Releases and perform Revisions of TDP in Product Data Management (PDM) system.
  • Cooperate as an integral member of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) contributing to successful program outcomes under demanding cost and schedule constraints.
  • Duties could include Manufacturing support in a Sustaining / Liaison Engineering role working independently as well as in the context of teams to advise on FPAs, optical systems, or Dewar systems.
  • Define the scope and level of analysis required to meet required objectives and will be held accountable for completing the work within the agreed upon cost and schedule. This responsibility for cost, schedule and technical compliance will also extend to tasks that may be delegated to internal or external analysis support personnel resources.
  • Serving as an organizational spokesperson the selected candidate will act as an advisor to management and customers on critical design decisions. The candidate will be expected to effectively present his/her work in program and department reviews and to provide expert counseling and mentoring to other team members.


Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in Mechanical design in the aerospace or commercial industry.
  • Experience developing and implementing new products, processes, standards or operational plans.
  • Experience with low-temperature materials material usage in cryogenic applications.
  • Experience with performing hand calculations based on fundamental equations.
  • Experience with thin structural bonds in assemblies.
  • Experience with thermal testing: planning, organization, execution, data reduction and correlation.

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Extensive understanding and experience in wide application of advanced principles, theories, concepts and techniques in structural and/or dynamics analysis resulting in contributions to the development of new theories and/or methods.
  • Team leadership and/or personnel management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of government, industry and/or academic practices and standards related to mechanical/aerospace.
  • In depth experience in vacuum life analysis and development of vacuum enclosure assemblies.
  • Experience with design of heterogeneous semi-conductor material systems.
  • Highlight working knowledge of cryogenic materials properties via published papers or programs actively engaged as a contributing analyst.
  • Knowledge of commercial CAD software, such as CREO/ProE, Solidworks, or Unigraphics.
  • Ability to read detailed engineering drawings and specifications, including understanding of GD&T.
  • Programming experience in Matlab, Python, C++, or Visual Basic.

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
