ELECTRONICS MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (Title 32)

Duties

As a ELECTRONICS MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (Title 32) with the Texas National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

• Plans weekly or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations. Establishes deadlines and priorities based on established general schedules, methods and policies. Determines skills, materials and equipment required to do the work. Participates in the initial planning of current and future work schedules and development of budget requests. Provides workload data, estimates, information on staffing needs, and recommendations as the scheduling of projected work.
• Assigns tasks to be performed. Explains work requirements, methods, and procedures. Instruct subordinates on new procedures or methods and aids on difficult or new problem areas. Reviews work in progress or on completion. Adjusts as necessary to effectively and economically accomplish the work, Notes and investigates work related problems and independently implements corrective actions which can be taken without affecting work operations controlled by other supervisors. Assures that equipment and materiel is available when needed. Coordinates work with other units.
• Recommends and participates in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies. Schedules and approval leave of subordinates. Sets performance requirements and makes formal and informal performance appraisals. Determines training needs of subordinates and arranges for its accomplishment. Counsels' employees on problems. Adjusts informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives. Take informal corrective action on conduct or performance problems. Initiates proposals for disciplinary action where needed. Works to achieve the objectives of Government-wide programs and policies, e.g., equal employment opportunities and labor management relations. Promotes the participation of subordinates in programs such as the suggestion program, cost reduction program, etc. Ensures that regulations governing safety and housekeeping are observed with appropriate protective clothing and equipment being utilized. Maintains production reports and records. Periodically reviews position descriptions of subordinates for currency and accuracy. Initiates the detailing of subordinates to positions other than their own. Initiates or participates in review and improvement of work methods, organizational features, and the structuring of positions to eliminate unnecessary positions and achieve optimum content in those remaining.
• Performs the nonsupervisory work of the function as needed.
• Implements regulatory safety requirements an ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.
• Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Army National Guard (TXARNG) and wear of the military uniform.

Area of Consideration: On-Board Excepted. This includes:

• All currently employed full-time permanent, indefinite and temporary personnel of the Texas Military Department

Remarks:

• Position is being advertised as a temporary promotion for applicants currently employed with our agency. The temporary appointment is not to exceed one year, extendable up to one more year, for a maximum of two years total.

Military Requirements
For Dual-Status Technician positions service affiliation under Title 32 USC 709 is required.

Military skill set is determined by AFSC/MOS requirements. Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC/MOS

Other Requirements:

For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

Specialized Experience Required:

Experience or training utilizing principles, basic functions, and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment. Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc. Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications. In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.

Trial Period:

Upon completion of your trial period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1.- Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.

This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
