Position Summary:
JGMS Government Services is seeking an experienced Electrical and Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support design reviews. The successful candidate will perform constructability, code-compliance, and interdisciplinary reviews of the project's design packages. This position is 100% remote and is expected to require approximately 40-80 hours for each design review phase. The engineer will support our client's project team and report to the designated technical manager or project representative.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design basis documentation and load studies
- One-line diagrams
- Motors, wiring, breakers, and electrical panels
- Lighting and low-voltage components
- Photovoltaic power systems with battery backup
- Electrical distribution systems, ratings, schedules, hangers, and related components

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review the electrical and I&C design drawings, specifications, reports, and supporting documentation.
- Evaluate designs for constructability and compliance with applicable codes, standards, DOE orders, directives, and guidance.
- Review design documents related to:
- Design basis documentation and load studies
- One-line diagrams
- Motors, wiring, breakers, and electrical panels
- Lighting and low-voltage components
- Photovoltaic power systems with battery backup
- Electrical distribution systems, ratings, schedules, hangers, and related components
- Evaluate the integration of electrical and I&C design features with mechanical, civil, structural, and HVAC disciplines.
- Provide clear, detailed, and technically supported design-review comments.
- Review the design package to verify that comments from the review have been addressed or resolved.
- Confirm that the drawings and specifications have progressed to an appropriate level of design.
- Attend design-review working sessions and project progress meetings through Microsoft Teams.
- Independently review and validate applicable design calculations.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. A master's degree is preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state. PE license in the state of CO is preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in design and review of complex building projects, with a significant portion of that experience related to federal or DOE facilities.
- Demonstrated expertise in their field of expertise with a strong understanding of commercial construction in general with other Architect/Engineer disciplines.
- Ability to read and competently comment on electrical and I&C schematics and specifications
- Knowledge of relevant building codes (e.g., IBC, IMC, IFC, NEC, UPC) and industry standards (e.g., ASCE/SEI 7-16). Preferred and DOE-specific orders and guides (e.g., DOE O 413.3B).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with energy-efficient buildings and photovoltaic power systems
- Understanding of and capability to independently validate and verify design calculations
- Familiarity with USACE design standards
- Experience with interdisciplinary review, to identify and preemptively avoid potential interferences between electrical/I&C and other (civil/structural/mechanical) design features and components
