Job Description
The System Engineer Level 3 provides senior technical leadership across systems engineering, Linux/Windows administration, integration, and operational support. This role requires deep expertise in complex system design, requirements analysis, and multi platform administration. The environment lacks a standardized framework; the ideal candidate is a self starter who can quickly adapt to shifting priorities, identify solutions, and establish structure where none exists.
Core Responsibilities
• Analyze user requirements, concepts of operation, and high level architectures to develop system requirement specifications.
• Lead system design and development aligned with DoDAF and SOA architectures.
• Guide users during requirement formulation, feasibility studies, and alternative solution assessments.
• Serve as the technical authority for requirements integration, system design integrity, and engineering deliverables.
• Develop and maintain system engineering documentation (SE plans, requirements, interface control documents, architectures, verification plans).
• Coordinate multi discipline actions resulting from CCBs, design reviews, program reviews, and test events.
• Define and allocate functional, system, and component level requirements; ensure completeness and verification.
• Direct integration planning, interface definition, system test preparation, and configuration management.
• Conduct quantitative analysis of non functional performance areas (reliability, maintainability, survivability, vulnerability, etc.).
• Support DoD certification/accreditation processes and contribute to JCIDS documentation.
• Develop operational concepts, system threads, timelines, and end to end analyses.
• Guide integration and testing of complex hardware/software systems.
• Manage system baselines, risks, and change control throughout the lifecycle.
• Use models, simulations, prototypes, and alternative analyses to mitigate risk and optimize performance.
• Ensure adherence to evolving national and agency technical standards.
• Provide senior technical leadership to government stakeholders, program managers, and engineering teams.
Linux/Windows Systems Administration Duties
• Diagnose and resolve complex server hardware, OS, and application integration issues.
• Configure, manage, and maintain Linux systems and Windows 10/11 and Windows Server environments.
• Install and configure OS software; troubleshoot system failures; optimize performance.
• Maintain system integrity, configure network components, and implement OS enhancements.
• Provide Tier 1–3 support to end users, both in person and remotely.
Qualifications
• Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph (must already be held)
• IAT Level II (Security+ CE, GSEC, CySA+, CCNA Security, or GICSP)
• Twenty years of systems engineering experience on similar programs of comparable scope and complexity.
• Demonstrated ability to lead systems engineering efforts and drive high integrity technical outcomes.
• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline (or five additional years of SE experience).
Technical Skill Requirements
• End User Support: Tier 1–3 help desk (in person and phone).
• Systems Administration: Advanced Linux, Windows 10/11, Windows Server.
• Configuration Management & Automation: Puppet, Ansible.
• Scripting & Development: PowerShell, Python, Bash.
• Infrastructure & Storage: NetApp storage management, network administration.
• Virtualization: VMware, Horizon.
