Description

ASRC Federal System Solutions, LLC (AFSS), a subsidiary of ASRC Federal, is a premier provider of systems engineering, software engineering, systems integration, engineering, and program management services supporting mission-critical national security and defense programs.

AFSS is seeking a Safety Engineer to support the Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC) Program in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This position will work closely with government and industry partners to ensure system safety is integrated throughout the system lifecycle-from requirements development and design through integration, testing, fielding, and operational support.

The selected candidate will be responsible for applying system safety engineering principles to identify, evaluate, and mitigate hazards while ensuring compliance with Department of Defense safety standards and customer requirements. This position requires close collaboration with systems engineering, software engineering, hardware engineering, integration and test, program management, and customer stakeholders.

Job Duties Include
  • Apply system safety engineering principles throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Analyze system designs, hardware, software, facilities, and operational concepts to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Develop and maintain system safety documentation required by customer and program requirements.
  • Perform hazard analyses and maintain hazard tracking through a closed-loop Hazard Tracking System (HTS).
  • Develop, review, and update System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs), Safety Assessment Reports (SARs), Software Safety Analyses, and other required safety artifacts.
  • Evaluate system designs for compliance with applicable military, government, and industry safety standards.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical interchange meetings, risk reviews, and engineering working groups.
  • Support safety assessments during system integration, verification, validation, testing, and operational fielding activities.
  • Conduct safety audits and assessments of operational environments and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Participate in accident or incident investigations, root cause analyses, and development of corrective actions when required.
  • Collaborate across Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to ensure safety considerations are incorporated into system requirements, architecture, and implementation.
  • Provide technical recommendations to program leadership and customers regarding system safety risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Support program milestones while maintaining compliance with customer safety requirements.

Basic Qualifications
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance with the ability to maintain the clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Working knowledge and application of MIL-STD-882E System Safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1472 Human Systems Integration requirements.
  • Experience performing hazard analyses and maintaining hazard tracking documentation.
  • Experience developing and reviewing system safety documentation including SSPPs, SARs, Software Safety Analyses, and related artifacts.
  • Understanding of systems engineering processes across requirements, architecture, design, implementation, integration, testing, and verification.
  • Experience working within cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with customers, program leadership, and technical teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or U.S. Space Force acquisition programs.
  • Experience with radar, sensor, or command and control systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies including Scrum or Kanban.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools including Jira and Confluence.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Cameo Systems Modeler.
  • Experience using systems engineering tools such as DOORS, Cameo, CORE, Rhapsody, or similar modeling tools.
  • Knowledge of military and industry safety standards including MIL-STD-882, MIL-STD-1472, OSHA, ANSI, ASTM, NFPA, and related safety guidance.
  • Experience participating in design reviews, technical baseline reviews, and system verification activities.
  • Experience supporting government customers in a classified environment.
