IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK/SYSADMIN)

As an IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK/SYSADMIN) (GS-2210-11), you will provide support for Automated Logistics Information Systems and Mission Command Systems to all State/Territories activities/organizations and perform a wide range of specialized methods/techniques for planning; analyzing and identifying problems in order to develop and implement resolutions to administrative and systemic programs throughout the organization.

• This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Experience, education, and/or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Must have one year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade. Experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience researching and resolving hardware, software, and applications program problems by troubleshooting and working with user, NGB support agencies, and/or manufacturer/vendors/representatives as required. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion. Evaluating trouble tickets escalated from the help desk, setting priorities on a weekly and monthly basis. Resolving issues and problems concerning the effectiveness and efficiency of automated logistical systems administrative and systemic work operations. Determining systemic problems during maintenance of hardware or in the application of software and initiates corrective action as needed. Technical assistance includes equipment operation and maintenance, analytical techniques to test and analyze computer equipment malfunctions and software errors. Experience providing assistance to functional users in the identification of computer problems, troubleshooting diagnostics and resolution of technical problems identified in trouble tickets and initial setup of serviced automated logistics information system computers to include loading software, configuring modem and network card(s), assigning Internet Protocol (IP) addresses with correct subnet, connectivity to the network as required, coordinating with other support personnel and completing technical inspections.

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

or

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

Graduate Education: Education at the graduate level (above a Bachelor's Degree) in an accredited college or university. Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.

This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment.
