Backend Software Engineer
Location: Alexandria, Crystal City, Tysons (SCIF Access)
Work Type: Onsite ~50-75%
Remote Work: Yes
Role Overview
Responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the secure, foundational back-end components of our web applications operating at Impact Level 5 (IL5) and higher.
You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, scalable, and reliable server-side solutions that integrate commercial Frontier AI models into DoD systems.
Desired Qualifications
- Expertise in back-end technologies like Golang, Python, or similar languages.
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of web security principles and best practices, secure software design, and authentication concepts.
- Experience with containerization and Kubernetes-based deployments.
- Experience with cloud platforms like GCP, Azure, or AWS.

- GCP experience and/or GCP certifications.
- Azure experience and/or Azure certifications.
- AWS experience and/or AWS certifications.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities

Key Responsibilities
- Back End Development: Design, develop, and maintain back-end components of web applications using modern technologies and frameworks.
- API & Model Integration: Build and maintain RESTful APIs to facilitate communication between front-end and back-end systems, and establish multi-model API integrations for Frontier AI models.
- Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code that adheres to industry best practices and secure coding standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, designers, and front-end developers to gather requirements, brainstorm solutions, and implement features
- Code Reviews & Improvement: Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality, identify potential issues, share knowledge, and contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes.
- Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to back-end functionality, identify performance bottlenecks, and optimize application speed and efficiency within classified and unclassified environments.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in back-end development.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $100,000 - $120,000/YR (Compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, skills, education, certifications, seniority, and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.)
