Job Description

Shadowgate Partners is seeking a Linux System Administrator for our client, a leading provider of Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) and specialized communications systems to the Intelligence Community, with over 40 years of deep expertise across strategic and tactical missions.

This is a fully funded position with the client serving as prime on the contract, available for immediate start. This role is 100% onsite at the client's facility either in Fairfax, VA or Denver, CO.

The primary responsibility of this role is to maintain, upgrade, and support Linux operating systems and infrastructure across a large Linux enterprise environment. The candidate needs to be able to diagnose and resolve problems and respond to issues in a timely manner, and should be able to communicate technical concerns and solutions clearly to people with varying degrees of technical knowledge, working with them to resolve issues. Responsibilities also include maintaining system infrastructure, supporting upgrades and patches for security and application support, testing patches prior to enterprise rollout, and testing/building new and existing servers. The ideal candidate has experience in traditional bare-metal and VM environments as well as cloud environments, with a desire to gravitate more toward the latter.

Responsibilities and Duties

- Proactively manage system infrastructure including databases, testing computer equipment, and other software and hardware
- Provide technical support for both hardware and software issues that may arise
- Perform system monitoring and analysis, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, performance tuning and troubleshooting of servers, software, and hardware, and respond to anomalies
- Regularly upgrade system software and firmware as required
- Assist in integrating new applications and technologies into the current system

Qualifications and Skills

- BS degree in Computer Science or a similar field preferred; relevant work experience may be substituted
- 5+ years of experience as a system administrator
- In-depth knowledge and experience with Linux operating systems
- Good knowledge of several scripting languages
- GitLab and Puppet experience desirable
- GPFS/IBM ESS experience desirable
- Experience with cloud environments and architectures under K8s orchestration desirable
- General understanding of IP networks, switching, subnets, and VLANs
- General understanding of hardware including servers, blade chassis, fiber channels, SANs
- Ability to respond to support requests after hours
- Flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
- Knowledge of system security concerns and vulnerabilities
- Experience with RH Directory Server or FOSS alternatives
- Good problem-solving abilities
- Positive, self-motivated individual able to complete tasks independently
- IA certification (Security+ or CISSP)

Security Clearance

TS/SCI with the ability to obtain CI polygraph after start.

Travel

Willingness to travel to the client's customer sites preferred. Travel usually not to exceed 25%.

Salary Range

$125k - $215k
