Job Description





Base-2 Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer who analyzes user requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications. The Systems Engineer leads design and development activities, guides users in formulating requirements, advises on alternative approaches, and conducts feasibility studies. This role provides technical leadership for integrating requirements, design, and technology, incorporates new plans and systems into ongoing operations, and develops technical and system architecture documentation. The Systems Engineer guides system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans. The position involves interaction with the Government regarding technical considerations and associated issues, with ultimate responsibility for the technical integrity of work and deliverables in the Systems Engineering area. Communication with program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives is required.

  • Contribute to development of systems engineering documentation such as System Engineering Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirements Specifications, and Interface Control Documents.
  • Manage system requirements and derived requirements to ensure delivery of production systems compatible with defined system architectures such as DoDAF and SOA.
  • Assist with development of system and functional requirements and allocation to hardware, software, facility, and personnel components.
  • Coordinate resolution of action items from Configuration Control Board meetings, design reviews, program reviews, and test reviews requiring cross-discipline coordination.
  • Participate in Integrated Product Teams to design new capabilities based on development and operational considerations.
  • Participate in interface definition, design, and configuration changes throughout the system life cycle.
  • Allocate real-time process budgets and error budgets to systems and subsystem components.
  • Derive understanding of stakeholder needs and essential system functions from system requirements.
  • Derive lower-level requirements from higher-level allocated requirements ensuring completeness, correctness, uniqueness, unambiguity, realizability, and verifiability.
  • Generate alternative system concepts, physical architectures, and design solutions.
  • Participate in establishing and gaining approval of system or component definitions providing common reference points for hardware and software developers.
  • Define methods, processes, and evaluation criteria for verification of systems, subsystems, and work products against requirements in written plans.
  • Develop system design solutions satisfying system requirements and functional analysis.
  • Develop derived requirements for Information Assurance Services and Security Mechanism Technology.
  • Review and provide input to program and contract work breakdown structures, work packages, and integrated master plans.


  • Strong grasp of Kubernetes networking, configuration, and deployment across secure environments.
  • Proven ability to support compliance-driven sustainment activities with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with both technical team members and mission stakeholders.
  • Solid documentation and tracking skills using enterprise tools.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to evolving security and mission needs.
  • Fourteen (14) years' experience as a Systems Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of additional Systems Engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.


  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, Salt, and Ansible.
  • Familiarity with Rancher, Helm, and advanced Kubernetes features.
  • Working knowledge of observability tools like Elasticsearch, Kibana, and Grafana.
  • Security+ (CWIP) or equivalent certification preferred.


  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university with 14 years as a Systems Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • No bachelor's degree with 19 years as a Systems Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity (14 years plus 5 additional years substituting for degree).
