Omega Technical Services is seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist to support the Idaho Cleanup Project (ICP) and the DOE's Calcine Disposition Project in Idaho Falls, ID. This position provides technical and regulatory support for environmental remediation activities, radioactive waste management initiatives, scientific analyses, and environmental compliance efforts associated with one of the nation's most significant environmental cleanup missions.
This position is contingent upon contract award and/or project funding. Candidates may be identified, screened, and submitted prior to award. Employment offers and start dates are dependent upon successful contract award, funding authorization, and client approval.
The Environmental Scientist will work closely with project management, engineering teams, DOE representatives, regulatory agencies, and technical subject matter experts to support environmental restoration and waste disposition activities. This role is responsible for developing technical documentation, performing environmental and radiological analyses, supporting regulatory compliance efforts, and assisting with project planning and execution.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical writing skills, experience supporting environmental remediation or waste management projects, and the ability to effectively communicate scientific findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Develop and publish technical reports, engineering design files, annual reports, conceptual site models, and regulatory documentation.
- Analyze environmental, radiological, and remediation data and develop technical conclusions and recommendations.
- Support preparation of environmental documentation required under:
- National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
- Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
- Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA)
- DOE Order 435.1
- DOE Order 413.3B
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, scientists, and regulatory personnel to resolve technical and regulatory issues.
- Participate in technical reviews, project meetings, and regulatory discussions with DOE and external stakeholders.
- Assist in development of project scopes, schedules, budgets, and technical planning documents.
- Support environmental compliance evaluations, scientific analyses, and remediation activities.
- Provide technical support for design testing, operational activities, field investigations, and document reviews.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with DOE requirements, environmental regulations, company procedures, and quality standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience supporting environmental remediation, site characterization, waste management, or environmental restoration projects.
- Experience performing or supporting one or more of the following:
- Environmental risk assessments
- Dose assessments
- Radiological analyses
- Multi-media transport modeling
- Performance assessments
- Environmental restoration activities
- Strong technical writing, editing, and document development skills.
- Ability to analyze complex environmental and scientific data and effectively communicate results.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a drug and breath alcohol test, along with a Motor Vehicle Record check.
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
- Experience supporting Department of Energy (DOE) sites, national laboratories, or nuclear facilities.
- Experience preparing documentation required under DOE Order 435.1.
- Experience supporting CERCLA and RCRA regulatory programs.
- Familiarity with DOE Order 413.3B project documentation requirements.
- Experience working directly with:
- U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)
- Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)
- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Tribal Nations
- Public stakeholders
- Knowledge of radioactive waste management, disposal performance assessments, and environmental compliance programs.
- Experience supporting large-scale environmental cleanup or radioactive waste disposition projects.
- Previous DOE/NNSA work experience.
Shift will be dependent upon customer site discretion.
