Job Description



  • Participate in developing law enforcement programs and operating plans for MOT.
  • Participate in reviewing and developing implementation plans for new or changed laws, policies, and regulations affecting the current programs.
  • Implement approved plans for current to long range operations based on workloads, trends, and projected requirements.
  • Participate in developing methods and procedures affecting overall operations and assigns tasks to subordinate supervisor.
  • Implement operating plans based on assigned mission and functions; regulatory guidance, equipment, funding and staffing requirements necessary for mission accomplishment.
  • Implement new policies and procedures, briefs subordinate personnel, and monitors compliance to ensure actions taken are according to established policies.
  • Establish objectives for various operating elements of the department and assigns responsibilities to subordinates.
  • Establish training programs within the department to ensure initial training, sustainment training and training on new policy and law is conducted.
  • Perform the full range of supervisory duties and directs the staff through subordinate supervisors and shift leaders (on a 7 day/week, 24 hours a day operation).

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete law enforcement training.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass a Physical Ability Test within 30 days of appointment and annually thereafter.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Incumbent required to wear prescribed uniform.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes supervising law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Performing law enforcement work to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, protect life and civil rights, detect and investigate crimes, apprehend violators, and perform patrols within the jurisdiction of a state, county, city, campus, or military installation. This is the definition of specialized experience is typical of work preformed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10)

  • Within the first 2 years, boat crew members, must complete a swim assessment, Basic Maritime Officers course (BMOC), Advanced Basic Maritime Officers course, Rescue Boat Operations course, National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) courses- Basic Crew Member, Boat Search and Rescue and Tactical Operator, Boat safety course and MOT personnel qualification standard.
