Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Principal Thermal Engineer or Thermal Engineering Fellow with 20+ years of experience leading thermal engineering for advanced spacecraft, national security space systems, strategic defense programs, and highly complex aerospace platforms. This role serves as the organization's highest level technical authority in thermal engineering and influences both program execution and long-term technology strategy.
What You'll Do
Serve as the thermal engineering subject matter expert across multiple programs and business areas.
Establish organizational thermal engineering standards, modeling practices, and verification approaches.
Lead development of thermal architectures for next-generation spacecraft, strategic defense systems, cryogenic payloads, directed energy systems, and advanced aerospace platforms.
Provide independent technical assessments and peer reviews for high-risk and high-visibility programs.
Guide program teams through critical design decisions involving thermal risk, survivability, reliability, and mission assurance.
Develop innovative thermal management solutions for technically challenging environments.
Influence customer requirements, system architectures, and future thermal technology roadmaps.
Lead multidisciplinary reviews and support executive-level customer interactions.
Advise program leadership on risks, opportunities, and investment priorities related to thermal technologies.
Mentor senior engineering staff and serve as a technical coach for the thermal engineering organization.
Support business development, strategy, proposal reviews, and technology maturation initiatives.
Represent the company at customer technical interchange meetings, industry forums, and peer review boards.
Provide oversight of major thermal test programs and anomaly resolution activities.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
BS degree in Engineering or related technical discipline; MS or PhD strongly preferred.
20+ years of thermal engineering experience supporting aerospace, defense, or spacecraft systems.
Recognized subject matter expertise in spacecraft thermal design and analysis.
Expert knowledge of Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, ANSYS, CFD tools, and thermal verification methodologies.
Proven track record leading thermal engineering for major flight programs from concept through launch and operations.
Expertise in radiative, conductive, convective, and cryogenic thermal systems.
Demonstrated success developing innovative thermal solutions for highly complex technical challenges.
Extensive customer-facing leadership experience.
Ability to influence technical strategy across multiple programs and organizations.
Active TS/SCI clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Technical Fellow, Chief Engineer, or equivalent leadership experience.
Published technical papers, patents, or industry-recognized contributions in thermal engineering.
Experience supporting classified space programs.
Experience leading technology development initiatives and organizational capability growth.
