Job Description
We are seeking a Thermal Engineer with 5+ years of experience supporting aerospace, spacecraft, defense, or high-performance electro-mechanical systems. This individual will contribute to the thermal design, analysis, testing, and verification of flight and ground hardware while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle.
What You'll Do
Perform thermal design and analysis of spacecraft, instruments, EO/IR systems, cryogenic systems, antennas, communications payloads, precision electro-mechanical systems, and ground support equipment.
Develop thermal mathematical models using Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, ANSYS Mechanical, and CFD tools.
Calculate conductive, convective, and radiative heat transfer across steady-state and transient operating environments.
Generate thermal environments and thermal loads for spacecraft and subsystem designs.
Support integration, test, and validation activities including thermal vacuum (TVAC), thermal balance, and environmental testing.
Analyze test data and correlate thermal analytical models to test results.
Support design reviews and provide thermal engineering recommendations to improve performance and reliability.
Review engineering drawings, procedures, specifications, and engineering change requests.
Prepare technical reports, presentations, and customer deliverables.
Collaborate effectively with mechanical, electrical, systems, manufacturing, and test engineering teams.
Support cost, schedule, and technical performance objectives.
Required Education, Experience & Skills
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related technical field.
5+ years of thermal engineering experience supporting aerospace, defense, spacecraft, or complex electro-mechanical systems.
Experience with thermal analysis tools including Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, ANSYS, or equivalent.
Understanding of radiative, conductive, and convective heat transfer principles.
Experience supporting thermal testing and correlation activities.
Familiarity with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or similar platforms.
Strong technical writing and communication skills.
Active TS/SCI clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Spacecraft or satellite thermal design experience.
Experience supporting cryogenic systems.
Knowledge of thermal coatings, insulation systems, and aerospace materials.
Experience working directly with government customers.
