Note: Position location is subject to change based on central Maryland client needs.
We are hiring a Technical Writer to support a client in Laurel, MD. This role will support a worldwide engineering, operations, and technology refresh contract focused on Enterprise IT capabilities for an Intelligence Community customer.
The Technical Writer will work closely with engineering, operations, development, and government stakeholders to create, maintain, and manage technical documentation across hardware, software, systems engineering, operations, testing, and user support activities. This position requires strong writing skills, technical understanding, and the ability to translate complex information into clear documentation for a wide range of audiences.
- Create and maintain user documentation, including how-to guides, references, manuals, cheat sheets, and instructions.
- Explain scientific and technical concepts in clear, simple language.
- Work with customers to translate functional requirements into detailed technical specifications.
- Support engineering teams with documentation for system components and engineering artifacts.
- Prepare, review, revise, and maintain technical documents, including software documentation, systems engineering documentation, system operations materials, testing documentation, and user guides.
- Write and edit documentation for project hardware and software, including installation, configuration, and how-to documentation.
- Develop developer-oriented documentation while working directly with development teams.
- Use documentation tools to build templates and create output in various formats.
- Apply strong writing, editing, and grammar skills to deliver accurate documentation under tight deadlines.
- Provide leadership for technical writing tasks and serve as a primary documentation point of contact for contract coordination and task execution.
- Serve as process owner for technical documentation, including documentation produced by other technical writers.
- Manage experienced professionals who work independently across documentation assignments.
- Support documentation related to SDLC, IC ITE, Risk Management Framework, and contract terminology.
- Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Seven years of relevant experience, including at least five years in a technical writing or lead writing role.
- Ability to distill complex information into clear, concise, and accurate text.
- Excellent writing, editing, grammar, and proofreading skills.
- Ability to work independently and deliver accurate content under deadline pressure.
- Proven experience designing and delivering developer-oriented documentation.
- Experience working directly with software development or technical teams.
- Experience using multiple documentation tools to develop templates and manipulate output styles.
- Thorough understanding of software development concepts, Risk Management Framework, and related technical terminology.
- Four years of additional Technical Writing experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
- Experience supporting DoD, Intelligence Community, or federal customer environments.
- Familiarity with Enterprise IT environments, engineering operations, Tier 2/3 support, break/fix support, and technology refresh efforts.
- Experience documenting hardware, software, system components, and engineering artifacts.
- Experience supporting documentation libraries, process ownership, and documentation standards.
- Familiarity with SDLC, IC ITE, RMF, PWS, and enterprise systems terminology.
- Experience coordinating documentation activities across engineering, operations, development, and customer teams.
- Experience providing technical writing leadership or managing documentation tasks.
