Major Duties

The Record/Information Dissemination Section (RIDS) Section Chief (SC) has direct program responsibility for the FBI's Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts (FOIPA) Program. These FOIPA requests and disclosures comply with the Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts (FOIPA) (Title 5, United States Code, Sections 552 and 552a), the Freedom of Information Act Executive Order 13392, Classified National Security Information Executive Order 13526, and other Presidential, Attorney General, and FBI policies, procedures, and mandates; judicial decisions; and Congressional directives.

The RIDS SC:

1) has direct program responsibility for the FBI's FOIPA Program,

2) is responsible for providing operational, technical, legal, and administrative leadership and oversight for the section,

3) will have extensive interaction with counterparts and senior managers in FBIHQ and field offices, and

4) is required to extensively coordinate and maintain relationships with the Office of General Counsel, Department of Justice, and the intelligence community, and represent FBI and IMD equities regarding FOIPA and transparency matters.

The mission of RIDS is to promote the public's trust by upholding the transparency and integrity of the FBI's information with a service of excellence to the American people. RIDS effectively plans, develops, directs, and manages responses to requests for access to FBI records and information.

    The FBI is in the Executive Branch of the federal government. It is one of the components of the Department of Justice (DOJ). The FBI is the principal investigative arm of the DOJ. All FBI positions are in the excepted service.

    The selectee with the exception of current FBI SES employees, will be required to successfully complete a one-year probationary period as a condition of retaining an SES appointment in the FBI.

    New Federal employees must serve a one-year probationary period. The probationary periods will be served concurrently.

    Veteran's preference does not apply to SES.

    Selectees are also required to complete a financial disclosure report, OGE-278e, within 30 days of official appointment.
