Job Description
- Direct the planning, scheduling and the conduct of surveys and inspections of safety programs.
- Conduct investigations to identify casual factors and recommend countermeasures to control or eliminate hazards.
- Evaluate adequacy of safety programs to cope with operational factors.
- Perform supervisory duties to include: Assign/monitor work; prepare schedules for completion of work; develop performance standards, evaluate performance; effect disciplinary actions, resolve complaints/grievances; and identify training needs.
- Facilitate training for subordinate safety professionals.
- Monitor environmental parameters, and conduct inspections including recommendations for corrective action.
- Provide oversight of programs related to the disposition and disposal of hazardous and toxic materials.
- Evaluate technical aspects of design, development, testing and operation of Army materiel, equipment, and facilities.
- Develop policy and plans for the Activity to carry out assigned safety responsibilities.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- You may be expected to travel 10% Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) for business purposes.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Financial Disclosure Statement OGE Form 450 is used to assist agencies and employees to avoid conflicts between duties and financial interest.
- This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- Requires within twelve months of hire, incumbent must complete the CP-12 level skills outlined in the 0018-job series Master Training Plan and be awarded the CP-12 Professional Certificate.
- This CP-12 Professional Certificate certification requirement must be obtained and maintained within 12 months of employment. Failure to obtain this certification within the required time may subject the incumbent to adverse action.
- All applicants are required to successfully complete the Civilian Education System Course and the Supervisory Development Course within 12 months of being assigned to the position
- Temporary promotion may be made or extended up to a maximum of five years.
- Time Limited Detail NTE may be made or extended at management discretion.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Conducting safety inspections and identifying hazards in industrial and maintenance operations; 2) Performing accident investigations and hazard analyses involving heavy equipment, munitions, and hazardous materials; 3) Developing and delivering required safety training and evaluating its effectiveness; 4) Coordinating safety actions with supervisors and support staff and recommending corrective measures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
