Salary
The salary shown is the BASE SALARY for the grade level. The appropriate
locality pay will be applied according to the location of the official duty station.
GS-11: $63,795.00 - $82,938.00
GS-12: $76,463.00 - $99,404.00

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is primarily in an office and is mainly sedentary. However, some duties require inspection of field sites, on-site evaluations, inspections of construction and repair facilities, and a wide variety of physical structures necessitating frequent walking, prolonged standing, and occasional climbing, crouching, and other physical movements.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is mainly office/administrative in nature. However, regular and recurring inspection work exposes the safety and occupational health manager to high hazard operations or industrial shop conditions where there are moving machine parts, acid fumes, irritant chemicals, and high noise levels. Onsite evaluations and inspections involve exposure to operating equipment and machinery, dust, fumes, and high noise levels. Protective gear may be required.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Serves as the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) source for technical expertise with the responsibility for advising FBI managers, supervisors, collateral duty safety and health officials, OSH committees of appropriate OSH measures to control or abate hazardous conditions, or operating processes and for applying regulations, standards, and sound OSH and/or environmental protection practices.
- Helps to advise FBI managers, supervisors, collateral duty safety and health officials, ESH committees, and personnel of applicability of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements, as well as other sound ESH practices.
- Apply regulations, standards, and ESH procedures, including fire prevention/protection, occupational safety and health, and environmental protection.
- Conduct hazard assessments and recommend mitigations and PPE (if warranted) according to the hierarchy of controls.
- Conduct program evaluations and audits to determine adherence to applicable ESH laws, regulations, and policy.
- Work with cadre of collateral duty ESH officers to ensure programs are implemented within their AOR. Implement training and procedures for collateral duty officers.

Specialized Experience (SE)
GS-11: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-9 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
- Communicating safety information orally and in writing to internal and external entities.
- Collecting and analyzing safety data to draft reports.
- Providing training on safety measures and compliance.
- Assisting with program audits to determine adherence to applicable occupational health and safety laws and policies.
GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE (in addition to above) is defined as follows:
- Providing recommendations orally and in writing to management to improve health and safety programs in accordance with applicable health and safety laws and policies.
- Collecting and reported health and safety data to internal and external stakeholders.
- Creating and leading training for occupational health and safety matters.
- Providing program leadership for employee health and safety in regard to construction projects, design, incident review, and hazardous materials.
Education
All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:
GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
