Job Description



  • Repair air and missile defense systems and related equipment in accordance with the certified round concept.
  • Test samples of manufacturer's lots of air and missile defense systems.
  • Transmit technical data to a central data bank, monitoring for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare reports concerning test findings, maintenance requirements, and reliability exhibited by the air and missile defense systems.





  • Appointment may be subject to a Tier 3, Noncritical Sensitive- Moderate Risk suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to be mobile for regular rotational assignments worldwide as the needs of the service dictate. Incumbent is required to sign a world wide Mobility agreement.
  • Business travel/temporary duty (TDY) may be required up to 35% of the time.
  • Pre-employment and annual physical examinations required.
  • Lifting requirement up to 40 lbs.
  • This position is for the overnight third shift. The incumbents tour hours may also be subject to change dependent upon schedule demand.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968; persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible.
  • Position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • Ammunition certification in accordance with AMC-R 350-4 is required within one year of appointment.
  • Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives Screening in accordance with AR 190-11 required initially and annually.
  • This is a temporary position scheduled to last one year and may be extended up to 5 years.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Testing diversified manufacturer's lots of air and missile defense systems using automated test equipment; 2) Interpreting test data to determine required maintenance on the missiles tested; 3) Transmitting technical data to a central data bank; and 4) Repairing missiles and related equipment in accordance with the certified round concept. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
