Senior Software Engineer (C++/Command & Control) – Secret Clearance Required
Location: Dayton, OH (Onsite)
Salary: $120,000 - $180,000
Clearance Required: Active Secret Clearance (Must be eligible and willing to obtain TS/SCI)
About the Opportunity
Insight Global is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our client in support of a mission-critical command-and-control (C2) software modernization effort for the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC).
This engineer will serve as the technical leader for a growing development team building Caesar, a next-generation command-and-control framework being developed from the ground up. The program supports intelligence and defense operations and requires a strong software architect who can guide technical direction while remaining hands-on in development.
The ideal candidate has deep expertise in modern C++, software architecture, and framework design, along with the ability to mentor developers, drive engineering standards, and solve complex technical challenges within a highly specialized defense environment.
What You'll Do
-Lead the technical direction and architecture of a modern command-and-control software framework
-Design, develop, and maintain scalable software solutions using modern C++ (C++20 and newer)
-Establish software engineering best practices, development standards, and architectural guidelines
-Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers
-Collaborate with developers, product managers, and government stakeholders to deliver mission-critical capabilities
-Evaluate complex engineering problems and implement scalable technical solutions
-Guide framework and engine design decisions across the platform
-Perform hands-on development while providing technical leadership to the team
-Support the evolution of a next-generation intelligence and defense software ecosystem
-Contribute to long-term product strategy and software modernization initiatives
Required Qualifications
-Active Secret Security Clearance
-Ability and willingness to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance
-Bachelor's Degree in a STEM-related field
-5+ years of modern C++ development experience
-Strong understanding of C++ frameworks, engines, and software architectures
-Expertise with C++20 or newer standards
-Experience applying modern software design patterns and engineering principles
-Experience leading architectural design efforts
-Ability to mentor and guide junior developers
-Strong communication and technical leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
-Experience with Command and Control (C2) systems
-Modeling and Simulation experience
-Experience developing simulation frameworks or simulation engines
-TS or TS/SCI Clearance
-Experience supporting intelligence community or defense customers
-Experience with data architecture and data modeling
-Python, Rust, or other modern programming languages
-Previous team lead or technical leadership experience
-Experience working with radar systems, sensors, aircraft systems, or large-scale simulation environments
-Master's Degree in a STEM discipline
