Job Description

Position Summary

The Campus Area Network (CAN) installation & Integration Technician is responsible for the installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of network infrastructure and communications systems across customer and campus environments. This position supports the deployment of wired network solutions, structured cabling systems, network equipment, and associated technologies.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical professional who can work effectively as part of a team, travel extensively to customer locations, and assist with the successful implementation of network infrastructure projects. The position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in dynamic field environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Installation and Integration
- Install, configure, and integrate campus area network infrastructure including routers, switches, fiber optic systems and structured cabling.
- Perform equipment rack and stack activities, cable routing, labeling, and equipment mounting.
- Assist with deployment and integration of network, telecommunications, and security systems.
- Conduct equipment testing, validation, and commissioning activities to ensure proper operation.
- Verify installations meet project specifications, industry standards, and customer requirements.

Field Operations
- Travel to customer sites, campuses, and project locations to perform installation and integration activities.
- Support multi-site deployments and network expansion projects.
- Coordinate field activities with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and customer representatives.
- Participate in project kick-off meetings, site surveys, and readiness assessments.
- Provide status updates and installation progress reports.
- Security monitoring and incident response.

Troubleshooting and Testing
- Perform basic to intermediate troubleshooting of network connectivity, cabling, and hardware issues.
- Utilize testing equipment to validate copper and fiber installations.
- Identify and resolve installation-related deficiencies and configuration issues.
- Assist engineering staff in diagnosing integration and interoperability issues.
- Document test results and corrections actions.

Documentation and Quality Assurance
- Maintain accurate installation records, as-built drawings, and inventory documentation.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company quality standards and customer requirements.
- Document configuration changes, installation procedures, and project deliverables.
- Participate in quality inspections and acceptance testing activities.

Safety and Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and site-specific requirements.
- Adhere to OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
- Maintain proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure safe handling of tools, equipment, and materials.

Required Qualifications

Education
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Electronics, Network Engineering, or related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Clearance
- TS/SCI with CI Poly preferred

Experience
- 2-5 Years of experience installing and supporting network or telecommunications infrastructure.
- Experience with structured cabling, fiber optic systems, and network equipment installation.
- Experience working in field deployment, integration, or construction-related environments.
- Experience supporting large-scale network deployment projects preferred.

Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel extensively to customer and project sites.
- Willingness to travel up to 25-50% of the time, including CONUS and OCONUS travel as required.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and extended project hours when necessary.

Teamwork and Collaboration
- Work closely with network engineers, project managers, technicians, and customer personnel to achieve project objectives.
- Participate as an active member of installation and integration teams.
- Demonstrate a positive, professional attitude in customer-facing environments.
- Support team members during project execution, troubleshooting, and schedule-critical activities.
- Share technical knowledge and contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work on ladders, in equipment rooms, and in construction or industrial environments.
- Ability to stand, bend, climb, and perform physical installation activities for extended periods.

Preferred Certifications
- BICSI Technician
- CompTIA Network+
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- Fiber Optic Association Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT)
- OSHA 10-Hour or OSH 30-Hour Safety Training
