As an Alaska Native owned corporation, our work helps secure an enduring future for our shareholders. Join our team and discover why we are a top veteran employer and Certified Great Place to Work™

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to drive the technical design, system integration, and deployment of mission operations services supporting NOAA's Space Weather Observations Mission Operations Services (SWO-MOS) program. This critical role bridges architectural concepts with hands-on technical deployment, focusing heavily on integrating core satellite Command and Control (C2) systems, mission management frameworks, and secure hybrid cloud architectures. This position is permanently based out of our primary engineering hub in Aurora, CO, with an expected travel requirement of up to 15% to the Annapolis, MD operational facility site, and features a flexible schedule with remote work on Fridays.

Location: Aurora, CO (On-site / Hybrid)

Clearance Required: Ability to obtain/maintain NOAA Public Trust / Secret

Travel Requirement: Up to 15% travel to Annapolis, MD

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
  • System Integration & C2 Development: Lead the integration and configuration of core SWO-MOS C2 platforms-specifically utilizing the OS/COMET® framework for core telemetry tracking, commanding, and real-time operations interfaces.
  • Flight Dynamics & Orbit Determination: Collaborate with aerospace specialists to implement and validate orbital mechanics and flight dynamics tracking loops utilizing NASA's General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT).
  • Hybrid Cloud Architecture Implementation: Design, configure, and maintain secure hybrid cloud environments combining on-premises server infrastructure with cloud-based computing platforms to process high-cadence space weather instrument data pipelines.
  • Secure Mission Deployment: Deploy mission-critical ground software applications utilizing automation, containerization, and orchestration tools to guarantee scalability, zero-downtime operations, and rapid recovery.
  • Network & Data Infrastructure Governance: Collaborate with boundary defense architects to manage high-throughput networking configurations, interface topologies, and data distribution layers linking the core facility safely to remote NASA/NOAA antenna systems over secured internet lines.

Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience: 6+ years of progressive engineering experience in satellite ground systems, defense, or aerospace communications infrastructure. Candidates possessing close to this experience profile will be thoroughly evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Core Systems Stack Expertise: Direct technical familiarity or professional hands-on exposure integrating OS/COMET® C2 architectures or working within NASA's General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT) suite for flight dynamics execution.
  • Infrastructure Skills: Hands-on experience with hybrid cloud computing technologies, advanced networking configurations, complex data management architectures, and automated infrastructure orchestration.
  • Core Engineering Capability: Strong foundational knowledge of systems engineering principles, technical problem-solving, and managing full-lifecycle requirements.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a strictly related technical field.

Preferred Qualifications & Compliance
  • Familiarity with federal space systems standards and compliance metrics, including NIST SP 800-53, FISMA High, and ITAR regulations.
  • Prior experience working with NOAA or NASA operational frameworks, telemetry formatting, or space weather environmental datasets (e.g., magnetometers, plasma sensors).
  • Familiarity with digital engineering tools or modeling environments to track interface definitions across network boundaries.
