Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Act as an FFRDC advisor for the sponsor's space communications research and development program, including identifying new research opportunities; guiding current research efforts; proposing and executing novel studies that align with the sponsor's portfolio; and assisting in acquisition of novel technologies.
  • Identify transition opportunities for promoting sponsor research projects into an operational environment.
  • Collaborate with other groups at the sponsor agency to leverage efficiencies and guide the transition of research products into operations.
  • Act as Principal Investigator for MITRE studies that support the sponsor's research portfolio.
  • Provide program management and technical advisory support for research products under contract by the sponsor.
  • Deliver technical expertise in both ground and space-based cybersecurity domains supporting the sponsor's unique mission requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with cyber protection and operations teams to identify emerging technology needs and conduct market research to evaluate potential solutions.
  • Translate cyber requirements into acquisition strategies and technology recommendations.
  • Provide strategic guidance on cyber defense technologies and methodologies.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field such as statistics, physics, mathematics, operations research, engineering management, computer science, or related STEM program.
    • Experience working in government or industry in relevant work areas including: Artificial Intelligence Assurance; Machine Learning Engineering; space-to-ground communications; secure SATCOM.
    • Superior customer engagement and communication skills to be able to work seamlessly across MITRE, government, and contractor teams.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to succinctly capture salient issues and provide seniors with fact-based, actionable and relevant technical solutions.
  • Must be a US citizen with an active TS/SCI w/Poly clearance to be considered.
  • This position has an on-site requirement at MITRE or government locations of 5 days a week.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • The ability to help guide and shape the sponsor's diverse research program in the area of space communications.
  • Understanding and experience in the assurance of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, specifically in the domain of adversarial threats to models, data, and infrastructure commonly utilized in predictive systems.
  • Knowledge of space-to-ground communications best practices.
  • Knowledge of quantum computing and networking principles.
  • The ability to deliver quality research products and technical reports as a first author with minimal guidance.
  • History of building trusted relationships with demanding customers or leaders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, judgment, discretion, and tact.
