JOB DESCRIPTION
The Operations Research Analyst applies advanced quantitative and analytical methods to support decision-making, policy development, and operational assessments within complex defense environments. This role focuses on analyzing large-scale, integrated systems—such as weapons systems and mission-critical platforms—to evaluate performance, identify risks, and improve mission outcomes.
Develop and apply mathematical and simulation models to evaluate system performance, risk, and mission effectiveness
Conduct risk and probabilistic analysis across multiple interconnected systems
Analyze mission success likelihood (e.g., aircraft operations, communications systems)
Validate data, test models, and ensure analytical accuracy
Support operational assessments, mission assurance, and system worthiness efforts
Consolidate and present analytical results in a clear, concise manner to senior leadership
Collaborate with program offices, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
10+ years of experience in operations research, applied mathematics, or statistical analysis
Experience developing and applying analytical models (e.g., risk, simulation, logistics, performance)
Strong data analysis skills, including validation and model testing
Experience conducting predictive and risk-based analysis
Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
Ability to effectively communicate complex technical findings to non-technical audiences
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Experience supporting weapons system operational assessments or mission assurance activities
Experience briefing senior DoD or Air Force leadership
Familiarity with NC3 systems or other mission-critical operational environments
Proficiency with analytical tools such as MATLAB, R, SAS, SPSS, or Minitab
Experience supporting program offices or command-level decision processes
Demonstrated ability to serve as a subject matter expert within a complex stakeholder environment
