Senior Level Career (10+ yrs experience)
$160,000 - $220,000
Job Description
Position Title: Solution Architect - RF/Communications Systems (Navy)
Location: San Diego, CA (Onsite - NAVWAR Old Town Campus)
Clearance Requirements: Active TS/SCI (SCI eligible acceptable)
Position Status: Direct Hire / Contract
Salary: $150,000 - $220,000+ (commensurate with experience)
Position Description:
We are seeking a Solution Architect to support a major Naval communications and information warfare program in San Diego, CA. This role sits within a small, highly technical architecture team supporting a broader Naval systems portfolio spanning RF spectrum operations, tactical data links, and Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) capabilities. You will shape the architecture and requirements that drive what software and hardware gets fielded next - working across the full Naval and joint communications picture, not within a single program silo.
This is an architecture and requirements role, not a software development role. You will define how systems should work together; engineering teams build to your designs. The position is heavily client-facing, requiring regular direct engagement with government stakeholders and the ability to brief technical recommendations to senior military and government leadership.
Travel is approximately 25 percent, including quarterly trips to Hawaii and the East Coast for conferences and technical review boards.
What You'll Do:
- Architect solutions across space and land-based communications systems, RF spectrum operations, and tactical data links supporting Naval and joint missions.
- Lead capability assessments, operational planning, and risk management activities to inform system design decisions.
- Develop requirements for complex Department of the Navy systems and systems of systems.
- Analyze RF spectrum behavior across different environments and operational conditions, including contested and degraded scenarios.
- Architect resilient Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) solutions, including alternative methods of receiving timing and positioning data beyond GPS.
- Brief technical findings and architecture recommendations to senior military and government leadership.
- Engage directly with government clients and stakeholders as a primary technical point of contact.
- Collaborate with a small, technical team supporting a broader Naval systems architecture portfolio.
Required Skills/Education:
- Active TS/SCI clearance, previously briefed into a program at this level (SCI eligible candidates will be considered).
- 5+ years of experience in space or land-based communications architectures, RF spectrum operations, or waveform modernization initiatives.
- 3+ years of experience with capability assessments, operational planning, risk management, and mission integration activities.
- 3+ years of experience with requirements development for complex Department of the Navy systems and systems of systems.
- Experience with Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT), including alternative and resilient timing/positioning methods.
- Demonstrated ability to brief senior military and government leadership.
- Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience applying Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG).
- Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
- IAT Level II Certification.
- CCNA or CCNP Certification.
- MCSA or MCSE certifications (Windows Server / Windows 7).
