The Senior Network Architect serves as a senior technical leader within the Network Architecture team, responsible for enterprise network architecture, design governance, and technical leadership across classified environments. This role ensures network architectures align with TOGAF and DoDAF frameworks and works closely with Domain Architecture to define and implement classified networking standards, promoting consistency, interoperability, security, and alignment with enterprise technology strategies.

As a networking Subject Matter Expert, the Senior Network Architect provides advanced architectural guidance and technical leadership to engineering, operations, cybersecurity, and program teams. This position supports architecture reviews, collaborates with Domain Architecture on trade studies and technology evaluations, and guides programs through scalable and secure network architectures. The Senior Network Architect supports complex problem resolution, modernization initiatives, and governance activities while collaborating across organizations to shape the future direction of classified network solutions and ensure compliance with architectural, operational, and security requirements.

What You Will Do
  • Lead the design and evolution of enterprise network architectures supporting classified programs and enterprise environments.
  • Apply formal architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and DoDAF to guide solution development and ensure traceability from mission needs to implementation.
  • Collaborate with Domain Architecture to develop and maintain network architecture principles, standards, reference architectures, and technology roadmaps.
  • Support architecture governance activities and help ensure compliance with established standards, security requirements, and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain architecture artifacts, including system views, operational views, technical standards documentation, and architectural guidance.
  • Serve as a technical authority for network-related design decisions and provide advanced architectural guidance across programs.
  • Provide Tier 3/4 escalation support to operational network teams, resolving complex issues that require deep technical expertise and architectural-level analysis.
  • Partner with engineering, cybersecurity, systems, and program teams to translate architectural intent into implementable designs.
  • Lead architecture reviews, participate in design forums and technical working groups, and provide architectural oversight for complex initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Domain Architecture on trade studies, technology evaluations, and reference architecture development to support strategic technology decisions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption where appropriate.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and technical leadership to engineers and Network Architects.
  • Support proposal efforts and new program captures with architectural guidance and solution development.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support long-term modernization, standardization, and simplification initiatives for classified network environments.
  • Communicate with parties within and outside of own function and regularly engage with customers, vendors, and partner organizations.
  • Must be able to obtain Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 Certification requirements (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent certification) within 6 months of start date.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years' experience
  • Experience developing, guiding, and governing enterprise-scale network architectures in complex enterprise or classified environments.
  • Experience working with advanced network technologies, including routing, switching, firewalls, WAN, segmentation, zero trust concepts, encryption, and secure communications.
  • Experience leading architecture reviews, evaluating emerging technologies, and providing technical leadership for complex network initiatives.
  • Experience applying formal architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, DoDAF, or similar enterprise architecture methodologies to drive solution development and architectural governance.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret DOD security clearance, prior to start date. The ability to acquire a Top Secret clearance is required (obtain after Day 1). U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.


Qualifications We Prefer
  • TOGAF certification or formal TOGAF training.
  • Experience supporting classified systems, secure networks, and mission-critical environments.
  • Familiarity with RMF / CSRM, NIST, STIGs, ICD 503, and other DoD security frameworks and compliance requirements.
  • Experience developing enterprise technical standards, reference architectures, and governance processes.
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills, including experience developing architecture artifacts and presenting technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, architects, or leading technical communities and working groups.
  • Cisco CCNP certification.
  • Experience with Cisco and Palo Alto networking platforms and technologies.

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
