Job Description
Serve as Pilot-In-Command on the B-1B at Edwards AFB and other CONUS locations. Plan, coordinate, and conduct test and other mission types in support of flight test programs. Ensure safety of flight and positive communications with external agencies based on real time operational considerations.
Responsibilities as an MTSI Pilot may include:
• Functions as Pilot-in-Command. Performs aircrew duties per aircraft flight manuals and associated directives.
• Serve as a project pilot and perform inherent duties such as test/safety plan, watch item/deficiency, and test report writing and editing.
• Communicates flight details and conducts pre- and post-flight briefings.
• Performs as a member of an integrated team to ensure safe and efficient operation of the aircraft(s) by adhering to the principles of crew resource management and company/regulatory guidance.
• Plans and conducts inflight pilot duties of production aircraft. Directs and executes required maneuvers to verify system configuration, aircraft navigation and performance.
• Validates aircraft operation and configuration to meet approved production flight test requirements.
• Performs Instructor and Evaluator Pilot duties. Instructs pilots during upgrade, recurrent and transition training. Evaluates and approves pilots for qualification on associated aircraft.
• Perform as a Test Conductor (TC) and/or Test Director (TD), as required. Duties include the following: Creating and reviewing test plans, test cards, and safety plans. Scheduling resources for test events. Leading test mission briefs, execution in Mission Control Rooms (MCRs) or similar, and debriefs. Completing post-test mission reporting requirements.
Required:
• Minimum of 8 years' experience piloting the B-1B
• Graduate of a military Test Pilot School (TPS) OR have the ability to obtain a Non-TPS Approval per DCMA 8210.1D.
• Minimum of 1,500 hours as PIC
• Minimum of 100 hours PIC on engineering test flights.
• Job requires FAA commercial certificate (SE Land and/or ME Land, Instrument Airplane) with the appropriate endorsements.
• Minimum of FAA Class I medical certificate.
• Maturity and professionalism to interface with a team of discipline engineers in a Mission Control Room.
• Work well in either a team environment or independently.
• Position requires willingness to accept changing and evolving roles & responsibilities in support of customers' requirements and needs.
Desired:
• Prior experience performing P&FQ/flight sciences, loads/structures, and propulsion integration testing.
• Prior experience with weapons, sensors, and Electronic Warfare (EW) testing.
• Prior experience performing software testing.
• Experience supporting Special Access Program (SAP) efforts.
• Ability to obtain TC/TD qualification.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree desired.
Clearance Requirements:
Active Top Secret. SAP/SCI Eligibility required.
Travel:
Approximately 10 - 25% travel may be required.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
The pay range for this position in California is $170,000/year to $220,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract ranges, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors.
