Position Location

This position will be located onsite in Fort Greely, Alaska.

Job Overview

Under direction of Facility Supervisor, the Fire Alarm Technician facilitates the repair and maintenance of all fire alarm systems. Provide the daily maintenance operations and activities for all assigned facilities. Receive and evaluate work orders and requests, investigate when appropriate and complete necessary repairs.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:
  • Perform the Fire Alarm duties necessary to maintain all buildings and structures in good repair independently.
  • Works with other Technicians to share specialized skills and experience related to fire systems maintenance and repair.
  • Performs installations, inspections, periodic tests, maintenance, and repairs installed fire alarm detection and suppression systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and National Fire Protection Association standards.
  • Inspects fire alarm equipment visually and replaces defective components.
  • Tests initiating and signal circuits, detectors, and system transmitter and makes needed repairs.
  • Checks pressure gauges on suppression system storage containers and recharges or replaces containers. Individual must be able to interpret wiring diagrams to locate failures.
  • Work involves planning and layout of work from blueprints, drawings, models, along with verbal and written instructions.
  • Coordinates with other trade and warehouse personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies, and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.
  • Inspects and diagnoses system failures to determine corrective action required.
  • Helps perform periodic stock inventories and prepare material requisitions for replacement items as required.
  • Supports and assists other department staff and trade groups in daily operations as needed or directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Timely and cost-effective performance of duties.
  • Working with the Facility Supervisor to outline work to be completed, after which technician is expected to work independently.
  • Guidelines include those established by the Facility Supervisor, Operations Management, manufacturer handbooks, NEC/NFPA/UFC codes, and engineering diagrams appropriate to the trade.
  • Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Adherence to established safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices.
  • Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Having the ability to work well under pressure.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of experience in the fire alarm maintenance and/or electrical field.
  • NICET II Certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair various fire alarm systems, controls, and equipment, including addressable fire alarm and suppression systems.
  • Ability to successfully pass any employment background check and/or drug testing required on the contract.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance at the Secret level.

Preferred:
  • Working knowledge of solid-state and conventional control circuitry. Prior Military and/or Government base operations experience.

Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to work indoors/outdoors in various temperatures.
  • Position requires traveling to building sites during inclement weather. Comfortable working around exposures to hazardous materials.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to reach above head, stoop, bend, or squat periodically throughout each workday.
  • Must be able to load/unload materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Must be able to climb on a ladder for various work tasks.
