Job Description
| Navius is seeking a hands-on Senior Software Systems Engineer to support mission-critical programs in Annapolis Junction, MD. This role sits at the intersection of software development, systems design, integration, and platform reliability. |
| The position is approximately 60% hands-on Java development and 40% systems design, integration, and architecture alignment. You will help drive software-heavy systems from concept through delivery while working closely with developers, systems engineers, DevOps teams, solution architects, and mission stakeholders. |
| KEY RESPONSIBILITIES |
| • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java-based applications using Spring Boot, microservices, and distributed cloud architectures |
| • Implement Service-Oriented Architecture solutions and develop system/service views |
| • Support system design, integration, interface definition, and architecture alignment across services, APIs, and infrastructure |
| • Participate in software design reviews, CCB meetings, technical milestone events, and cross-discipline resolution efforts |
| • Perform data engineering work involving structured and unstructured datasets |
| • Lead or support verification, validation, and test planning to ensure deliverables meet functional and security requirements |
| • Apply knowledge of Information Assurance concepts, including authentication, access control, and cryptography, to system designs |
| • Contribute to technical assessments, alternative analysis, software risk management, and lifecycle planning |
| • Support CI/CD pipeline design, infrastructure-as-code practices, automated deployments, and monitoring |
| • Translate system requirements into working software components and maintain supporting technical documentation |
| • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior developers and systems engineers |
| PRIMARY FOCUS |
| • 60% hands-on Java development with Spring Boot and microservices |

| • Operates at the intersection of software build-out and platform-wide reliability |
| BASIC QUALIFICATIONS |
| • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph |
| • 20+ years of relevant systems engineering experience, with a strong emphasis in software-driven environments |
| • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field; 5 additional years of experience may substitute for a degree |
| • Hands-on Java development experience |
| • Experience with Spring Boot, microservices, SOA, Agile development, and DevSecOps environments |
| • Experience supporting software integration, interface design, and full-lifecycle engineering for complex software or hybrid systems |
| • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to developers, stakeholders, and technical leadership |
| • Ability to work on-site as required |
| PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS |
| • AWS certification highly preferred |
| • Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud architectures |
| • Experience supporting C&A efforts |
| • Experience with AI/ML capabilities in operational pipelines |
| • Experience with performance analysis and optimization across application tiers and system boundaries |
| • Experience leading or contributing to Integrated Product Teams |
| • Experience with modeling, simulation, or prototyping tools |
