Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing patrol and security in remote areas utilizing off-road vehicles and patrol watercraft; enforcing jurisdictional boundaries on both land and water to protect government property and endangered species; and lead law enforcement operations which includes conducting surveillance, raids, interviewing witnesses, interrogating suspects, securing search warrants, and making apprehensions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
Education

- Serve as a Police Officer (Conservation Law Enforcement) engaged in Conservation Law Enforcement duties. Participates in investigations into violations of environmental and fish and game laws.
- Participate in planning, coordinating, and conducting the enforcement program of Federal, State, and installation fish and wildlife regulations.
- Conduct law enforcement activities such as surveillance, interviewing witnesses, interrogating suspects, searching for and the collection of evidence, conducting seizures of contraband and vehicles, securing search warrants, making apprehensions.
- Perform duties to provide controlled, safe hunting and boating activities, including conducting scheduled and unscheduled marine patrols to ascertain compliance with federal and state boating laws.
- Conduct both short-term and long-term investigations, felony and misdemeanor, into violations of Federal fish, wildlife and environmental laws which involve a wide range of law enforcement activities.
- Maintain a close working relationship with the local State and the U.S. Department of the Interior (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) in studies of endangered wildlife species and threatened populations.
- Ensure physical security measures are in effect in remote areas of the installation for the protection of Government property, endangered or threatened species, and cultural / archeological protected / sensitive sites.
- Collect and preserve evidence, conduct long and short-term investigations on criminal cases and analyze facts to identify suspects and develop case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspect to trial.
- Participate in planning, coordinating, and conducting the enforcement program of Federal, State, and installation fish and wildlife regulations.

- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state Motor Vehicle License and obtain and maintain local government driver's license.

- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 25% of the time.
- Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- Successfully graduated from the USAMPS Conservation Law Enforcement Officer Course within one year of assignment.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training/certification/qualification requirements. These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System training requirements.
- Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
- Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
- Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical / psychiatric evaluation.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential.
- Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
