Duties
As a MATERIALS HANDLER SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32), WS-6907-6, you will supervise workers, either directly or through one or more subordinate leaders and/or supervisors, in accomplishing the operations of a distinct organizational unit and to perform associated nonsupervisory work.

Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:
Military Grades: LIMITED TO RANKS OF WO1, NTE O3.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : WS-06 Level - MUST possess specialized experience for the WS-06 Level, which In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience demonstrating the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments of lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establishing priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

As a MATERIALS HANDLER SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32), WS-6907-6, you will supervise workers, either directly or through one or more subordinate leaders and/or supervisors, in accomplishing the operations of a distinct organizational unit and to perform associated nonsupervisory work.
- Instruct subordinates on new procedures or methods and provide assistance on difficult or new problem areas.
- Establish deadlines and priorities based on established general schedules, methods and policies.
- Participate in the initial planning of current and future work schedules and development of budget requests.
- Plan weekly or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations.
- Make adjustments as necessary to effectively and economically accomplish the work.
- Ensure that regulations governing safety and housekeeping are observed with appropriate protective clothing and equipment being utilized.
- Assure that equipment and materiel is available when needed.
- Set performance requirements and make formal and informal performance appraisals.
- Adjust informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives.
- Assign tasks to be performed and explain work requirements, methods, and procedures.
- Counsel employees on problems.
- Promote the participation of subordinates in programs such as the suggestion program, cost reduction program, etc.
- Provide workload data, estimates, information on staffing needs, and recommendations as the scheduling of projected work.
- Note and investigate work related problems and independently implements corrective actions which can be taken without affecting work operations controlled by other supervisors.
- Initiate or participate in review and improvement of work methods, organizational features, and the structuring of positions to eliminate unnecessary positions and achieve optimum content in those remaining.
- Work to achieve the objectives of Government-wide programs and policies, e.g., equal employment opportunity and labor management relations.

- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. - Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
