WOOD Federal Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Systems Engineer Level 3 to support mission-critical initiatives focused on the development, integration, evaluation, and operationalization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities within a complex government environment.

The successful candidate will partner with government leadership, mission stakeholders, and cross-functional technical teams to develop user-centric standards, frameworks, and engineering solutions that support the effective implementation of human-in-the-loop and human-on-the-loop AI systems. This role requires strong systems thinking, stakeholder engagement, requirements management, and technical communication skills, along with the ability to operate effectively in rapidly evolving and ambiguous environments.

This position offers the opportunity to help shape how AI technologies are integrated into mission operations while ensuring solutions remain trustworthy, operationally relevant, and aligned with user needs.

Responsibilities

Systems Engineering & Requirements Management
  • Apply systems engineering principles throughout the system lifecycle, including concept development, requirements analysis, architecture development, integration, verification, validation, deployment, and operational support.
  • Collaborate with government stakeholders and technical teams to develop and refine stakeholder requirements and mission needs.
  • Coordinate across teams and organizations to ensure solutions satisfy technical and operational requirements.
  • Assist in planning, tracking, and managing engineering activities, risks, dependencies, and technical decisions.

AI Systems Standards & Integration
  • Support the development of user-centric standards for human-in-the-loop and human-on-the-loop AI systems.
  • Assist with cross-product integration activities to ensure consistency and interoperability across mission capabilities.
  • Participate in the development, evaluation, and implementation of AI-related engineering standards and practices.
  • Support technical implementation activities associated with AI-enabled mission systems.

Test & Evaluation Framework Support
  • Assist in the development, testing, and refinement of frameworks used to evaluate AI system performance, trustworthiness, and operational effectiveness.
  • Participate in user testing activities and provide analysis of findings and recommendations.
  • Contribute to the creation of engineering artifacts, reports, assessments, and recommendations.

Stakeholder Engagement & Technical Communication
  • Document and communicate technical information, recommendations, status, risks, and decisions both orally and in writing.
  • Facilitate coordination among stakeholders, engineering teams, and leadership.
  • Support technical briefings, working groups, and collaborative engineering activities.

Analysis & Problem Solving
  • Conduct analysis of alternatives and recommend engineering solutions.
  • Identify technical risks and support mitigation planning.
  • Engage in creative problem-solving and systems thinking activities to address mission challenges.
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities, evolving requirements, and uncertain environments.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of systems engineering experience supporting complex technical programs, consistent with SE Level III requirements.
  • Experience applying systems engineering principles across multiple lifecycle phases, including requirements analysis, architecture development, integration, verification, validation, and operational support.
  • Experience supporting stakeholder requirements development, technical planning, risk management, and information management activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze technical alternatives and recommend engineering solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in dynamic and rapidly changing environments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), or advanced analytics initiatives.
  • Familiarity with human-in-the-loop and human-on-the-loop operational concepts.
  • Experience developing engineering frameworks, standards, or evaluation methodologies.
  • Experience facilitating cross-organizational collaboration among technical and mission stakeholders.
  • Master's degree in a related technical discipline.
  • Experience supporting test and evaluation activities.
  • Experience working in highly ambiguous, emerging technology environments.
