What you will be doing?

This position is contingent upon contract award. We are currently pursuing a proposal and are seeking qualified candidates to include in our submission and identify candidates for future hiring needs on the program once awarded.

  • Core Knowledge & Skills: Understands foundational security concepts, network principles, OS security, cloud threat protection, and compliance standards. Performs basic troubleshooting and monitoring under guidance.
  • Work & Complexity: Handles routine security tasks, monitors systems, configures basic settings, and maintains incident logs with supervision.
  • Quality & Independence: Follows procedures, ensures accuracy, documents incidents, and reliably executes assigned tasks with limited decision latitude.
  • Teamwork & Communication: Supports senior engineers, collaborates on team projects, communicates status, and responds to feedback.
  • Consulting & Engagement: Provides technical assistance, shares best practices, suggests process improvements, and interacts with vendors on simple issues.
As your initial project assignment, you will support the unique needs of our client as a Information Systems Security Engineer, Junior.
Project Summary

We are seeking a Junior Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to support the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure information systems in a federal environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to grow their cybersecurity expertise while working alongside senior engineers on mission-critical systems.

This position will be 100% onsite in Quantico, VA.

This is a proposal-based position; employment is contingent upon contract award and funding availability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining system security controls in accordance with NIST SP 800-53, RMF, and agency security policies
  • Support the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process, including documentation, security control implementation, and system authorization activities
  • Help prepare and maintain security documentation such as SSPs, POA&Ms, and security assessment reports
  • Participate in security testing and vulnerability assessments, including remediation tracking
  • Collaborate with system engineers, developers, and ISSOs to ensure security requirements are integrated into system designs
  • Monitor system compliance and support continuous monitoring activities
  • Assist in identifying and mitigating security risks and vulnerabilities


Required Qualifications
  • 1+ year of experience in information security, cybersecurity, or related IT field
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Understanding of core cybersecurity principles such as confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA triad)
  • Familiarity with RMF, NIST standards, and security best practices
  • DoD 8570/IAT Level II certification or equivalent (e.g., Security+)
  • Active Top Secret clearance required


Preferred Qualifications
  • CISSP certification (preferred) or willingness to obtain
  • Knowledge of FISMA, FedRAMP, or DoD cybersecurity requirements
  • Exposure to vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., ACAS, Nessus)
  • Basic knowledge of networking, operating systems, and cloud security concepts
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
At AIS, we are committed to offering competitive and fair compensation that reflects the skills, experience, and contributions of each team member. The targeted base salary range for this role is $68,000-$104,000 per year. Please note that this range is provided as a guideline and the final offer will be based on several factors, including but not limited to, skillset and competencies, level of experience, education, certifications, and location.
