ACADEMIC ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM MANAGER
Are you a master of strategic communications who speaks both 'academia' and 'military'?
We are looking for an Academic Engagement Program Manager to serve as the critical operational conduit between the Department of War (DoW) and the nation’s top higher-education institutions.
Based out of the Pentagon and the Mark Center, this high-visibility, hybrid role places you at the intersection of national cyber strategy and academic innovation. You will act as the right hand to executive leadership, helping shape the future of our nation's defense workforce.
Why This Role Inspires: This is not a behind-the-scenes administrative role.
You will directly support the CAEO External Programs Coordinator (GS-15) and interface with university presidents, academic deans, and Senior Executive Service (SES) leaders.
You will own the narrative and operations for the military's most prestigious cybersecurity education programs, including the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) and Senior Military Colleges DoW Cyber Institutes.
Your work ensures that the brightest minds in academia align with critical national security missions.
What You Will Do Liaise with National Programs: Serve as the main operational point of contact for premier defense academic networks (UC2, VICEROY, NDU CIC). You will track major milestones and keep national partnerships thriving. Orchestrate High-Level Engagements: Manage high-stakes scheduling and de-conflict communications for top defense and university leadership. You will craft the read-ahead materials that brief leaders before critical summits. Own Strategic Communications: Act as the primary editor for the CAEO newsletter. You will translate complex defense goals into engaging content regarding grant opportunities, research milestones, and program updates. Manage Digital Platforms: Drive the public face of the directorate by managing the CAEO external website, ensuring compliance with public release protocols while keeping content fresh and engaging. Support Executive Directorate Operations: Draft official memorandums and design high-impact briefing decks for Flag Officers and senior military executives.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Experience & Education: A Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of related experience (or 9 years of experience in lieu of a degree).
Clearance: A trusted and active DoD Secret Security Clearance
(US Citizenship required). Hybrid Flexibility: Ready to collaborate in-person 3 to 4 times a week at the Pentagon and Mark Center locations.
Ecosystem Expertise: A strong understanding of how military cyber initiatives cross paths with university environments, federal grant frameworks, and consortium models.
Executive Presence: High emotional intelligence, sharp organizational skills, and the polish required to interface with top-ranking academic and military personnel.
Communication Mastery: Superb writing ability, master-level proficiency in Microsoft Office, and an eye for digital content curation.
