Supervisory Range Operations Specialist

Duties

• Plan and schedule work of duty to provide adequate coverage for range operations for 24 hours a day, seven days a week on alternate or flexible work schedule when necessary and required.
• Develop detailed training plans for assigned personnel to broaden personnel skills.
• Advises unit personnel on the capabilities and limitations of all weapons used in military training at the installation.
• Enforces OSHA and MSHA safety requirements for employees entering and working in these areas.
• Oversee the collection, organization and the maintenance of statistical data records and other pertinent information used to prepare various recurring reports for use by the installation's higher headquarters.
• Formulate and issue written instructions per procedures and special instructions for non-routine or complex assignments.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This is a Term position scheduled to last 6 years.
• Required to posses and maintain a valid Driver's License.
• Required to attend and successfully graduate from the Army Range Safety Course within one year after appointment to the position.
• Required to complete and pass a Pre-Employment Physical Examination
• Position requires frequent lifting up to 60lbs.
• Position may require approximately 5% TDY/travel.
• Incumbent may be required to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to, safety shoes, glasses, ear protection etc.
• Incumbent may be required to enter an established impact areas to install targets and accessories.
• Incumbent may be required to work nonstandard duty hours (e.g., shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime-both scheduled and unscheduled, and, is subject to recall 24 hours a day, seven days a week in case of emergency.
• Position is designated inclement weather essential, incumbent may be required to perform duties exposed to extreme weather.
• Incumbent may be required to work in adverse conditions to include snow, ice, rain, and dust.
• Required to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
• Term employment is subject to a one year trial period.
• This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Manages personnel and work schedules to ensure continuous mission support; 2) Monitors range facilities and operations ensuring safety and regulatory standards; and 3) Prepares facility usage reports to monitor training activity. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in fields related to the position to be filled.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
