Job Description
Systems Engineer – Satellite Communications (Ground Systems)
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Systems Engineer to support the operations and maintenance of satellite communication ground systems. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to apply their technical skills in a dynamic, mission-critical environment while growing their expertise in satellite ground systems engineering.
What You'll Do:
Support the troubleshooting, diagnosis, and resolution of system outages and operational issues
Collect and analyze diagnostic data to identify root causes and assist in developing effective workarounds
Accurately document problems, resolutions, and system changes using logging and discrepancy reporting tools
Monitor system performance and support modifications to ensure conformance with technical specifications
Generate, analyze, track, and manage system requirements
Maintain and update technical documentation including schematics, block diagrams, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and design review packages
Support design trade-off studies evaluating performance and cost impacts of proposed engineering changes
Contribute to the development of concepts of operations and provide recommendations for system architecture improvements
Collaborate with experienced engineers and provide technical insight to the broader team
Coordinate with vendors for the timely repair and replacement of critical operational hardware
Author and submit technical documents and White Papers identifying system capability enhancements
Provide occasional after-hours on-call support and respond to emergency repair situations with little or no advance notice
Support periodic travel, both domestic and international (CONUS/OCONUS)
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
Minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience in systems engineering
Prior experience supporting RF ground systems engineering in an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) environment for satellite communications systems
Experience generating, analyzing, tracking, and managing system requirements
Experience developing and maintaining schematics, block diagrams, BOMs, and design documentation
Active and transferable TS/SCI with polygraph U.S. government-issued security clearance required prior to start date, with the ability to obtain special program access
Ability to work at heights and willingness to complete required antenna/tower safety training
Ability to provide occasional after-hours on-call support
Ability to travel on short notice, including internationally
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficient use of test and measurement equipment including spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, and oscilloscopes
Experience influencing design performance and cost trade-off studies for proposed engineering changes
Ability to apply technical knowledge to recommend new operational concepts and architectural improvements to increase system efficiencies
Experience coordinating with vendors for hardware repair tracking and lifecycle management
Experience upgrading hardware on Windows and Linux-based systems
Hands-on experience with Linux operating system environments
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly
Additional Information:
This position supports a classified program and requires an active TS/SCI with polygraph clearance prior to your start date. The role may require occasional after-hours availability and emergency response travel on short notice. Candidates must be able to meet physical requirements associated with antenna and tower work.
