Job Description
Altamira Technologies is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our growing team in Centennial, CO. The selected candidate will be primarily focused on data engineering requirements and will also serve as Data Engineering IPT Lead.
Data ontologies play a crucial role in enhancing data discoverability, improving data quality, and enabling advanced analytics. By providing a clear structure for data, they help organizations make informed decisions based on accurate and well-organized information. Defining the relationships between various data entities enables better data integration, interoperability, and analysis.
To be effective in this role, the candidate will need to develop data ontologies that serve as structured frameworks to help understand and manage data more effectively.
Roles and Responsibilities
Create ontologies that define the concepts, categories, and relationships relevant to ingested data. This involves identifying key entities and their attributes, as well as how they relate to one another.
Ensure that data from different sources can be integrated seamlessly. Map data from various systems to a common ontology, facilitating easier data sharing and collaboration amongst stakeholders
Work with Subject Matter Experts to reach consensus on how the ontology’s structure is designed, including the precise meanings of key words.
Serve as the data custodian, responsible for its provenance, accuracy, and location throughout project execution
Coordinate and participate in Technical Exchange Meetings with data stakeholders for both ingest and export. Understand customer's goals and deficiencies and propose potential solutions for capability improvement for either side of the interface
Identify, gather, and organize critical technical metadata to enrich the data catalog and enable effective data discovery
Create visual representations of available data, to include data catalogues, in innovative ways to help data stakeholders discover relevant information necessary for mission execution
Create and maintain charts, graphs, and dashboards to make complex data understandable for stakeholders
With a modeling focus, build statistical tools and techniques to explore and analyze data, identifying trends, patterns, and relationships
IPT Lead - willingness to perform interviews, select candidates and provide overall team leadership for expanding data engineering team
Tech Stack
Versed in data cataloguing tools (e.g. DataHub, OpenMetadata)
Visualization tools (e.g. Kibana, Grafana)
Common schemas (e.g. xsd, OpenAPI, MIL-SPECS)
Experience in scripting language (e.g. python, bash, MATLAB)
Microsoft Office suite with advanced Excel capabilities
Agile tools including Confluence and Jira
Nice to have: Experience with ontology tools (e.g. Protege)
Nice to have: Graph database (e.g. Neo4j, OrientDB)
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in technical field
5+ years experience in data engineering
Well versed in Extract, Transforms, Load (ETL) techniques and technologies, and will also be familiar with a variety of database types, schemas, and ontologies
While a heavy programming background is not required, sufficient technical knowledge in computer languages such as java is valuable
Experience in various areas of data transport to include RESTful API, Streaming API, SFTP, JMS, Kafka, message brokers, etc preferred but not required
Agile work environment experience using Jira or similar work management system
Abilities and Competencies
Active TS/SCI clearance with ability to obtain CI polygraph
Self-motivated and eager to work intently to satisfy mission requirements
Aggressively detail-oriented
Eager and able to rapidly learn new data types and technologies
Adaptable and has the desire to maintain our company culture
Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written communications with internal and external stakeholders of various backgrounds
Ability to multitask and adjust priorities as needed
Ability to critically evaluate problem spaces and propose solutions in real time
In accordance with Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for these positions is $150,000 to $225,000. However, Altamira Technologies Corporation considers multiple variables when determining compensation, including but not limited to, the level of responsibilities, prior work experience, education/certifications, customer contractual specifications, and any clearance requirements.
