Job Overview
The role of the Engineering Technician is to provide day-to-day integration support for a variety of communication systems and Internet protocol equipment. Candidate will have a professional and courteous attitude in a deployed team environment. An Engineering Technician 1 must have experience with structural wiring techniques and will support Subject matter experts with various copper and fiber installation. This position reports directly to the Project Manager of the Shore Installation Group in Chesapeake, VA.
Responsibilities

Working with NIWC Atlantic, Federal Government Organizations, Industry Partners and other technical codes, program/project managers, and SMEs, the Engineering Technician I will assist with the installation, planning, testing, and integration of complex Networks, Telephony systems and command centers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform duties in or around secure and non-secure military environments such as Naval/Coast Guard bases, command centers and piers.
- Obtain and maintain required certifications.
- Maintaining a security clearance.
- Owning required hand tools required in daily duties.
- Completing required paperwork, timesheets, and reporting as required.
- Provides input and noting any problems requiring attention of other staff members.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial, especially while on travel.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- Must have Associate's of Sciences Degree, or equivalent and (1) years of installation/integration experience OR have a High School diploma and Three (3) years of practical experience, to include: Installing copper/fiber cabling, testing, manufacturing, or maintenance.
- Must be able to attain a Secret clearance.
- Must be willing to travel up to 50% CONUS/OCONUS and work extended hours including weekends and holidays.
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation and able to provide driving record upon request.
Experience reading installation drawings and tech manuals. - RF, multi-pin and fiber optic cable and connector building experience.
- Installation and integration of copper and fiber infrastructure in military buildings, warehouse, and hospital environments.
- Directly support the onsite lead to effectively prioritize and execute daily tasks.
- Terminate data cables (cat5e, cat6).
- Build pathways and install copper/fiber trunks in commercial setting.
- Operates vehicles, hand tools, power tools, ladders, and test equipment.
- Assists other team personnel in the performance of their duties.
- Promote a team approach and problem-solving environment.
- Perform Cyber Security assessments and implement controls.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and pre-hire drug screening.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work inside/outdoors.
- Must be able to tolerate cold/heat.
- Comfortable working around exposures to hazards.
- Ability to work in low lit areas for long periods of time.
- Occasional travel may be necessary for long periods of time.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stoop, bend or squat to accommodate obstruction in varied environments.
- Comfortable working on ladders and arial lifts.
