Job Description

Duties

  • Monitor the installation Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) program execution in supported organizations to determine compliance with policies and regulations and for areas where process improvements can be made.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to journeyman safety professionals, assisting them in resolving the especially complex and difficult problems and cases where guides are very general or lacking.
  • Review and analyze accident and incident reports, standing operating procedures (SOPs), organizational and program documents, and all other information and regulations available in order to detect problem areas and to determine compliance policy.
  • Plan, coordinate, evaluate and provide technical advice for the command-wide safety program in the framework of applicable laws.
  • Interpret regulations, standards, procedures, methods, and techniques applicable to a broad-range of safety and occupational health duties that include industrial hazards and the transport of hazardous materials.

  • The incumbent of this position must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Incumbent may be required to travel up to 15% to perform duties.
  • Incumbent may be required to serve a two year probationary period.
  • Physical examinations are required initially and annually to ensure employee meets physical requirements of an Emergency Essential position.
  • This position is designated as emergency-essential (E-E). During a crisis situation, the incumbent, or designated alternate, may be required to deploy or to perform temporary duty assignments overseas in support of military operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes (1) Conducting safety and occupational health inspections to ensure compliance with federal safety and health guidance, such as OSHA or DoD standards; (2) Integrating Risk Management principles into marine or maritime terminal operations; and (3) Overseeing the safe transport of hazardous materials, to include arms, ammunition, and explosives (AA&E).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
