Duties

As a MATERIALS EXAMINER AND IDENTIFIER - Title 32, WG-6912-7, you will inspect, receive, sort, count, and classify hazardous materials. Perform pre-receipt examination of property and assure the turn-in and shipping is in order, the containers meet standards, are placarded and marked properly. Schedule receipt of property and identify contaminants. Reject property not meeting turn-in requirements and assist to correct any rejections. Determine nature and degree of the hazard involved. Determine if containers are Department of Transportation approved, safe to handle, and safe for storage. Determine the need for special handling/special storage of property. Perform complex searches of shipping and storage records, material specifications, vendor contracts, data for material identification. Prepare material for shipment, storage, and disposition. Pack, cushion, apply preservative and protect property. Prepare tags, labels and places items in containers for disposition. Identify storage locations and stock property allowing for maximum utilization of storage space, ease of access, segregation, and rotation of stock. Contact generating activities, shipping agencies, and National Guard environmental personnel to coordinate requirements of environmental policies and directives. Decontaminate and replenish spill equipment and supplies. Ensure spill incident reports are prepared IAW applicable regulations. Coordinate turn-in activities with the Defense Reutilization Marketing Office. Verify manifest and shipping papers, DOT markings, packaging, and labeling requirements. Notify the DRMO or Contracting Officer of discrepancies in contractor performance and may recommend changes to service contracts. Perform other duties as assigned.

RANK REQUIREMENT:
Member must provide in writing with their application package that they are willing to accept a reduction in rank in order to be qualified for this position, if applicable. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
You must maintain membership in the Kentucky National Guard.
You must be assigned to a compatible military position.
Wear of the military uniform.
Position may require a pre-employment physical.
May be subject to furlough actions.
May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
Must obtain and maintain a favorable adjudication of a T3 or equivalent investigation.
Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate a military bonus.
Acceptance of a Federal position will terminate Tricare Reserve Select (TRS) eligibility.
This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
Must attended Supervisor Training: failure to complete Supervisor Training within 12 months of appointment will result in reversion to previous position.
Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:
Experience which demonstrates the ability to distinguish between closely related or similar items, ability to follow procedures, ability to sort materials by type, and skill in the use of hand tools.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have experience identifying and sorting a variety of complex materials and equipment. Experience receiving materials and equipment, recording, and placing items in proper storage areas. Experience preparing all items for shipment using appropriate agency instructions. Experience in mathematical equations. Experience interpreting and using Federal Supply Catalogs, military and manufacturing catalogs, and technical and agency manuals. Experience using and operating forklifts and motor vehicles.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Resume must have complete dates, work schedule, and/or hours worked per week for both civilian and military employment. (Example: 2 JAN 1980 to 3 MAR 1981; 0800-1630 M-F or JAN 1980 to MAR 1981; 40 hrs/wk) Use of year only and unspecified work schedule will result in disqualification.
