Job Description
Support the Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA) G-6 SAP CIO efforts concerning the design, assessment implementation/deployment of networks for CIO/G-6’s distributed enterprise network environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Establish networking environment by designing system configuration; creating circuit plan, directing system installation, documenting system architecture, and enforcing network standards.
Provide detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
Design, configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN).
Analyze user’s Information Technology (IT) requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures.
Validate system requirements and provide recommendations to enable transition from the “As Is” premise-based network to an agency owned and managed distributed network.
Advise senior level customers on network architecture and optimization
Design, implement and maintain an enterprise network environment to include routers, switches (Multi-Layer, Data Center/ Access/Core/ Distribution) firewalls and Software defined access
Develop, document, and communicate cloud networking requirements to support CIO/G-6 objectives.
Provide technical recommendations for senior leadership, including Course of Action (COA) development and cost-benefit analysis (CBA)
Conduct testing of network systems. Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization.
Utilize monitoring, performance analysis, network management, software and hardware equipment to troubleshoot and isolate problems, assess network performance, and trace data and protocol activity
Qualifications:
Experience working on physical and logical network design for network infrastructure installation or deployment projects
Experience with systems and network monitoring tools
Experience gathering technical and business customer requirements
Understanding of cloud networking, specifically AWS/C2S
Knowledge of MPLS network design and implementation
Strong background in encryption technologies and applications, to include NSA CSfC
Familiarity with the RMF process
Strong networking background to be able to troubleshoot complex network issues
Ability to work independently
Able to create detailed documentation and visual representations of data. MS Visio experience preferred.
Ability to research and learn from vendor and developer documentation and apply concepts to other efforts
Able to communicate clearly and professionally with senior customers to field and troubleshooting questions and issues
Possesses at a minimum an approved DOD 8570 AIT level II certification
Desired:
Knowledge of DA policy and planning efforts, IT enterprise goals and objectives, and other required functions
Knowledge of SAP Operations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
MS Visio experience
Education: BA/BS or equivalent and minimum of 3-5 years of applicable experience
Years Experience: Experience with network design, implementation, and troubleshooting support for large Enterprise Networks
