Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is seeking a Journeyman level Drafter / CAD Engineer to support the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) contract.

In this role, you will support the design and documentation of critical facility infrastructure and security systems across WAPA sites, including security camera layouts, access control systems, and related physical security infrastructure. Your work will directly contribute to the safety, security, and modernization of facilities that help support essential operations across the Western United States.

You will develop and maintain high-quality technical drawings, engineering graphics, and design documentation in support of facility security systems. Working alongside experienced engineers and technical teams, you will ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with established design standards while supporting mission-critical federal infrastructure.

This is a Hybrid position with no travel required, offering stability, a consistent work location, and the opportunity to focus on meaningful, long-term security and infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide CADD services to create and update technical drawings, security system layouts (including security cameras, access control systems, and related facility infrastructure), and official business documentation such as facility diagrams and project management charts in support of Government requests.
  • Track, manage, and prioritize assigned work requests to ensure timely completion and alignment with project requirements and stakeholder needs.
  • Maintain a centralized library of final deliverables in both published and editable formats in accordance with established documentation and data management standards.
  • Incorporate redline revisions, field markups, and corrective updates into existing AutoCAD drawings, or develop new drawings as needed, to reflect security system installations, equipment changes, system modifications, and current drafting standards.
  • Collaborate with WAPA program, project, and engineering teams to ensure all facility security information (including installed equipment, system configurations, and layout updates) is accurate and up to date

Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain, and maintain, a DoD clearance up to a Secret level if needed for future contracts.
  • Education and Experience:
    • Certification from a two (2) year accredited Technical School in the field of Drafting with six (2) years of drafting experience or
    • HS diploma and eight (4) years of drafting experience.
    • Note: completion of an academic year at an accredited technical school may be substituted for up to one (1) year of experience.
  • Must have working experience and be proficient and qualified to develop, format, proof, edit/revise, produce, and publish CADD drawings in accordance with set standards.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office ® suite, Visio, and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
