Job Description

Duties

  • Use forklifts and banding equipment in accordance with safety procedures
  • Apply layout techniques to ensure balanced weight distribution and stability
  • Utilize reclaimed materials effectively while maintaining safety and durability standards
  • Follow technical guidance to ensure compliance with safety and transport standards
  • Ensure accurate placement of materials to meet safety and transport requirements.
  • Select and maintained equipment to support fabrication, installation, and repair tasks.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully meet and maintain requirements of the Physical Security of Arms, Ammunitions and Explosives IAW AR 190-11.
  • This position requires the incumbent to meet the requirements of AMC-R 350-4, Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations.
  • This position requires occasional temporary duty travel.
  • Federal Wage System employees, WG/WL/WS etc., must complete and pass a pre-employment and appropriate annual Depot Medical Examination.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a forklift license to operate an electric, diesel, and gasoline powered fork lift capable of lifting loads weighing 10,000 pounds or more and higher than 168 inches.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess a valid state driver's license.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to comply with the Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements. This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP), governed by AR 600-85, subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
  • Civilian personnel of the Department of Defense are not exempt from this provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, selectee will be required to sign a form acknowledging understanding of this provision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Blocker and Bracer without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform duties independently in securing freight, following routine block and bracing procedures, and using hand and power tools for constructing bracing items with minimal supervision - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Average weight handled is approximately 45 pounds; however, occasionally will handle items weighing up to 65 pounds unassisted. Materials handling equipment, such as dollies, hand trucks, conveyors, high-lift trucks, etc., are available and used wherever practicable. Work pace may be rapid for long periods of time and heavy exertion is required at frequent intervals. Work situation may require constant sitting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, or climbing in strained or awkward positions.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work site will usually be in railroad cars, trailer, or magazines, under conditions of poor ventilation and inadequate light and is frequently exposed to disagreeable heat, coldness, dampness, wind and rain. Frequently is exposed to noise and to possible cuts, abrasions, and splinters from power sawing, handling lumber, spiking, nailing, and other work. Is exposed to nose and lung irritation from dust and sawdust and possible injuries from falling objects, swinging crane loads, etc. May be required to wear protective equipment and clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) that are uncomfortable. Will be subject to general explosion hazard for the majority of the time and may also be subject to trinitrotoluene (TNT) or Tetryl-Poison hazard, toxic fumes, and other conditions found in explosives handling.
