Job Description

Duties

As an Aircraft Pilot, GS-2181-12 you may be expected to accomplish the following:
  • Pilot a variety of fixed wing twin engine airplanes and utility helicopters to transport passengers and cargo to and from a variety of points
  • Operates aircraft with short takeoff and landing capability, generally in good or fair weather conditions, but may include all types of weather, day and night over terrain such as forests, marshlands, mountain ranges, and open seas.
  • Performs maintenance operation checks (MOCs) and limited and general test flights of aircraft to ensure airworthiness upon completion of extensive disassembly for maintenance, repair or replacement of components or aircraft systems.
  • Performs general or limited test flights of aircraft when ground diagnostic tests cannot determine the safe and/or proper functioning of aircraft components or systems.

Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a *military unit* compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position.

*Military Unit* -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. (Guidance established by NJ HRO-J1)

Qualifications

Do you have the following General Experience(s)?
  • Understanding of the occupation's basic principles and concepts
  • One year on-the-job experience in the grade (or a comparable military rank)

Do you have the following Mandatory Qualification Requirements?
  • A Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates -OR- appropriate military certifications
  • Military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment

Specialized Experience :
Do you have the following Specialized Experience(s)?
  • 36 months of experience in the following;
  • Piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following main-frame/military aircraft:
  • Fixed-wing
  • Rotary
  • Remotely piloted aircraft
  • Training and instructing others in the piloting of a specified main-frame military aircraft
  • Supervising and/or conducting mission planning, mission preparations, filing of flight plans, and conducting crew briefings
  • Traditional "stick and rudder" type controls for piloting aircraft direction, altitude, and speed
  • Planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace
  • Conducting particular missions and flying specific main-frame aircraft in combat tactics
  • Flying in mountainous terrain
  • Performing tactical remote site evaluations
  • Performing landings on remote sites
  • Providing ground and flight training
  • Conducting night-vision operations or instructions

Required flying hours:
  • 1200 hours total military fixed wing flying time


Education

1. Undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university

2. A Graduate Degree from an accredited civilian academic college or from an equivalent professional military education school is optimum

3. Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from an accredited civilian aviation program OR must have aviation certification from accredited military aviation school.

Security Clearance

Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance within 1(One) Year of appointment.
