ASRC Federal Advanced Research LLC (AFAR) is seeking a Network Engineer/Tester to join our Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR-9) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at the William J. Hughes Technical Center for Advanced Aerospace (WJHTCAA) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. This is a full-time on-site position (no remote or hybrid work) and will require significant travel.
The ASR-9 is a radar system used by the FAA to monitor air traffic and weather conditions in the United States. The ASR-9 is a primary surveillance radar that provides air traffic controllers with information on aircraft position and weather.
Citizenship/Permanent Residency Requirement
All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance.
Relocation Requirement
Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
Education, Experience, & Clearance Requirement
All non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate.

- Be a US Citizen, have a US Green Card, or a Non-immigrant Work Authorization (VISA).

Education, Experience, & Clearance Requirement

- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or a Bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in another technical field, such as Physics, Aerospace, Computer Science, or Mathematics).
- Experience with NAS facilities, systems, and equipment is highly desirable.
- Three (3) to six (6) years of related work experience.
- This position requires the successful applicant to obtain and maintain the required security clearance or other authorization(s) within the necessary timeframe required by applicable contract(s).
Required Skills
- Essential Radar knowledge with Network traffic and Software Analysis Tools to evaluate messages.
- Troubleshoot, analyze, and determine operational issues and recommend solutions.
- Experience with radar system simulation tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, WRTADS, RRAP, Wireshark, and TeraTerm).
- Design, develop, and test modern solutions to incorporate into existing systems and equipment.
- Generate installation and test procedures for system modification and verification.
- Perform all aspects of system verification, including all phases of the testing process.
- Develop and execute test plan and procedures in an operational environment.
- Direct and coordinate with outside vendors to manufacture prototypes and production units including development of Manufacturing Specifications.
- Providing 2nd Level Engineering support to ASR-9 modifications installed in the field to include onsite or over the phone.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to work environments.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
Preferred Skills
- Understanding of radar principles, signal processing, and RF electronics.
- Familiarity with radar system components, including transmitters, receivers, antennas, and signal processors.
- Knowledge of radar system integration, installation, and field-testing procedures.
Daily Job Duties
- Provide 2nd Level engineering for data management for operational subsystems of the ASR-9.
- Performing troubleshooting with data analysis of radar systems and associated components.
- Conducting system upgrades, modifications, and calibration activities to improve performance and meet operational requirements.
- Developing and maintaining technical documentation, including maintenance procedures and system configurations.
- Conducting feasibility studies and cost analyses for electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot, analyze, and determine operational issues and recommend solutions.
- Conduct or participate in formal and informal reviews at predetermined points throughout the development life cycle.
Work Environment
- Full-time position with a standard work schedule.
- Travel throughout the country to different ASR-9 Radar sites to support local technicians in maintaining and modifying equipment. In this position, travel is not a priority, however availability with short notice to do so, is required. 25 - 50% of work will be on travel.
